Boise to charge for Saturday parking Downtown. Here’s how to avoid a ticket.

Starting Feb. 1, for the first time ever, the city of Boise will charge people to park in its metered spaces Downtown.

Enforcement of parking fees and the writing of parking tickets will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. People who leave their cars overnight can pre-pay their meters for up to two hours so that they have until noon to return and avoid a ticket.

Public weighs in on proposed parking fee, enforcement increases in Boise

The city anticipates that by making changes to metered parking downtown, longer-term parkers will move elsewhere and there will be more "churn" in the coveted spots in front of restaurants, bars and shops. This was something the majority of downtown business owners who weighed in agreed with on Tuesday.

The city says the uptick of events and infrastructure downtown is driving this update; studies show parking is at 90 percent capacity pretty much all day.

Remember there is a parking app for meters downtown!
