`Starchitects`
please stop decorating your buildings with f*%#*&% trees.
Come up with some actual architectural ideas instead

I don't see this BUILDING happening in this form. But, yes, if it did, that's what it would be.

Yeah, the height is meaningless. The Hudson Yards will be a sea of supertalls, this one will be about 10 ft taller than 1 Manhattan West. And the design isn't horrible. People just had expectations for a new, signature tower (or something) on the skyline. That's not what they were going for, and not really what was needed.

Anyway, this is close to a view off of one of those spiral balconies...

Tishman Speyer, Ingels bringing leaning tower, spiral to evolving NYC skyline

BY REW
FEBRUARY 24, 2016

Quote:
New York City’s High Line, which recently completed its third and final phase in 2014, is on track for a dramatic vertical extension, courtesy of Tishman Speyer.

The project in question is a breathtaking 65-story, $3 billion tower located at 66 Hudson Boulevard, making it the “dot at the end of the question mark,” according to designer Bjarke Ingels.

However, this will be no ordinary skyscraper – Tishman Speyer’s “Spiral” will function as a thematic extension of the park, featuring transparent glass walls and cascading outdoor terraces with foliage on every tenant floor. These terraces, if laid end-to-end, would stretch for half a mile, and will be complemented by additional greenery in the interior of the building, creating a truly unique experience for the Spiral’s tenants.

Notably, one of Ingels’ other recent projects is Two World Trade Center, which will also sport a unique architectural design.

.....The imaginative and progressive design of the Spiral is not just for show – it also reflects trends which Ingels and Tishman Speyer’s President Rob Speyer have identified in today’s marketplace.

The open and transparent structure promotes the ideas of creativity, collaboration, and teamwork, which are traits that are not only desired in the modern workplace, but also directions that it is leaning more towards as technology continues to bring companies even closer to their clients and to each other. The desire for outdoor amenities, such as roof decks and terraces, also played a large role in the decision, as these types of amenities can greatly increase the value of a space.

The 2.85-million square foot Spiral will also provide exciting opportunities for retailers. Its base will house 27,000 s/f of retail space, and due to its prime location adjacent to Hudson Park and the subway’s newest 7 train station at 34th Street and 10th Avenue, Tishman Speyer’s new tower will certainly become an instant hot spot among visitors to the High Line, future residents of Hudson Yards, and the City’s millions of tourists from around the world.

The Spiral will be the next step in New York City’s evolving landscape. With Hudson Yards still under construction, the 7 train now extended to 10th Avenue, the High Line completed, and many other projects in the works all over the city, the next few years look very exciting.

Part of what allows New York to maintain its position as the greatest city in the world is its constant improvements upon itself, and projects like the Spiral show that New York is hitting the ground running in 2016 and shows no signs of slowing down.

^ Notice how they left the top of 10 Hudson Yards out and made the upper part of the tower dark. They were afraid 10 HY will look much better on that render that Ingels ugly tower.

That's just a bad rendering, and not the only skyscraper render we've seen that ommited other nearby towers under construction or planned. Other Hudson Yards towers (like 3 Hudson) don't even bother to include other towers and many of the supertall renders elsewhere don't include all of the future towers. We'll get more accurate renders soon enough, something we've been waiting for.

Looks like the heavyweights of the Hudson Yards nearly came to blows. If only that could carry over to a battle for height.

Two big real estate execs nearly take the gloves off
Heavyweight developers Stephen Ross and Rob Speyer nearly came to blows over 421-a

By Daniel Geiger
March 20, 2016

Quote:
Two of the city’s biggest landlords nearly came to blows at a recent meeting of some of the most powerful figures in the real estate industry, according to several executives who were present.

According to witnesses who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Rob Speyer, 46, the president and CEO of Tishman Speyer, which owns the Chrysler Building and Rockefeller Center, got into a heated exchange March 8 with Stephen Ross, 75, the chairman of the Related Cos., which is building a $20 billion mixed-use complex in Hudson Yards.

The cause of the tiff? Witnesses said the two argued over the 421-a tax exemption, which developers say they need to build affordable housing as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s signature housing initiative.

At a meeting of the Real Estate Board of New York’s executive committee, a who’s who of landlords and top executives, Speyer asked if anyone in the room wanted to rekindle negotiations with the unions to try to hammer out an agreement and reinstate the program. Ross objected, said several people present.

“Only you” want to restart the talks, Ross said to Speyer, according to three witnesses. Speyer, REBNY’s chairman for the past three years, had tried for months to negotiate a deal before the 421-a program expired. Speyer was infuriated by the remark.

After the meeting was adjourned, Speyer marched over to Ross, and as the pair began arguing, Ross jumped out of his seat.

“This isn’t the NFL,” screamed Ross, who owns the Miami Dolphins. “I’m not going to be pushed around.”

Leonard Boxer, a real estate attorney with law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan who had been sitting next to Ross, jumped between Ross and Speyer, separating the pair. Several attendees said the confrontation appeared as though it could get physical.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said one eyewitness.

About 15 minutes later, Ross and Speyer appeared to bury the hatchet on the street outside REBNY’s headquarters at 570 Lexington Ave., where witnesses said they saw the pair chatting and embracing.

Oh well.

STFU and build, already............
The way things have been going for I don't know how long, every developer and his brother has been snatching up parcels of prime real estate to build in-demand high-rises.
Both these twits will most likely have more than one opportunity to fill future needs in other parts of the city using the DiBlasio mandate. We don't need unnecessary feuding over a non-issue.

To me, it's like one of those nature documentaries where we watch animals savagely bicker over the corpse of a kill, while they all feasts. There's more than enough for everyone. All will eat. It seems that way with NYC developers. All will eat, though they sometimes bicker.

Yes all will eat, but there are those who want a larger portion of the kill. It is a matter of pride (ego). NYC has a lot of developers and it is hard to be a small fish in a big pond. Better to be the big fish.

Yeah, the big dogs always want more. And Related and Tishman are two big ones as far as that goes. Tishman was actually the first to get the railyard development. Related came in when that fell through. So which one is the hyenna, and which one the lion, I don't know.

I wish they could continue the spiral until the tower climaxed into an actual spire.

It would look ten times better if the spiral wrapped around 2 more times and then they put two spires on top, it would be like a 21st take on the John Hancock tower.

it could win an award as laziest, most uninspired design of all the supertalls.

Yes it lacks creativity but it's really a nice "twist" on your standard blue-glass box.. I'd give it a B.

I don't think it lacks creativity. I think in terms of the tenant perspective, it will be a very creative use of space, similar to 2 WTC.
It's the new age of office construction in New York City. This is a massive office tower with large floorplates.

Similar to 2 WTC, this project will end up in Recycle Bin. This is a concept for now and I do not think anybody with even a little sense of aesthetics will approve that box.
