My first two years back in Chicago

After an absence of nearly 9 years while living in Columbus and DC, I relocated back to Chicago two years ago in April 2018. Since then, I have wandered around the city quite a lot and taken plenty of photos with my iPhone. I thought I’d share some of those photos at this 2-year mark since my return. Hope you enjoy!

Got to be the best Chicago thread of all time! Spectacular variety of seasons, commercial, residential and public spaces.

Great job!

Magnificent! I left Chicago in 2011 (sad face). Did the city seem different after your break from it? What were the positives and negatives? Again spectacular photos.

Wow that is quite some tour. Great job man! To me Chicago is my kind of city. The only thing it is possibly missing is mountains. What a great world city.

This is possibly the best Chicago photo thread I've ever seen.

I went to college right outside Chicago in the '90s and have been back maybe 10 times since. Not a single time have I not liked it more than the time before. It's insane that this city gets a bad rap in certain circles.

Good Lord... this was an incredibly epic photo tour. Thank you for all of the time and energy and effort it must have taken to put this all together! Not to mention that your photography skills are phenomenal! You captured nearly all the best elements of the city perfectly. Cheers!

Yes it seemed different mostly in a positive way, with more beautification of the built environment (including infill and redevelopment of underused sites)... the one downside is that it's definitely more pricey to live here compared to 11 years ago when I left. But having lived in DC for 7 years prior to coming back to Chicago, the housing prices here are so much more manageable than I experienced in DC. What I paid for my 2 bed/2 bath top floor condo here in northern Uptown not far from Andersonville and the lakefront is still less than an outdated studio would cost in a decent area of DC.

It's Fieldhouse Jones. A pretty cool reimagination of the former fieldhouse.

Though sadly it appears it has permanently closed (according to Yelp), presumably due to COVID.

What an epic thread! Thanks for posting

We get a lot of downtown threads here, but the neighborhoods are the "chicago" nearest and dearest to my heart, and you captured so many of them so beautifully here in all of their spectacular seasonal glory.

Seriously, man, this is an EPIC Chicago thread. Probably the best one we've had on here in a long, long time.

It also makes me yearn for the pre-Pandemic life....
