Yup, and another demonstration that any of these folks are more focussed on opposing new development than they are on protecting existing heritage as is their presumable mandate.

True... the "they" in this case being the Heritage Trust and it's related, but not directly linked Save the Whatever groups. The Heritage Advisory Committee is not the same group as the Trust.

Someone probably could have made a convincing argument to save at least the facade of the Maritime Life building... it's not what I'd call a common vintage in Halifax.

Imagine if we didn't have brain-dead height limits and spineless politicians unwilling to challenge them?

Just a single exception to try to incorporate SOME portion of that great building into the new development.

Could have been an iconic tower with a great, prominent, heritage base/podium.

Now we'll get... whatever flimsy crap goes in there now.

Oh well, at least all the area's rodents will have a nice, new home, as KP asserts. Luckily for them, they don't care whether a building is old or new, or has any kind of character or quality.

I already can't wait till the Doyle is knocked down and replaced with something else. Hope I live to see it.

Does "83" refer to your age or birth year? If the latter, good chance you will.

Heck, you'll probably live to see the replacement of what is about to be built there.

I stumbled upon this when searching for news on the Doyle project, and thought some good points have been made.

https://www.halifaxexaminer.ca/featu...ay-may-3-2016/

I post it hesitatingly as I realize his views are not popular with some here, but IMHO it's best taken at face value without reading in your personal opinions about the writer. Just trying to be fair...

I thought this bit of eavesdropping from Bousquet was far more interesting, both for a view into the ethics of the man and also for what was said in the conversation about HRM, their planners, and the huge disconnect between them and the development community:

While old building may well be capable of standing for another 100 years, a city is always changing, and uses of property do not make sense forever. Halifax seems to not understand that.

I laugh, but perhaps we should also cry?

Maybe they got confused and mistakenly saved the Second Cup/Rogue's aluminum facade instead of the sandstone?!?

Ironically, the absolute worst and flimsiest-appearing part of the structure remains...

However, it might improve the look of the new building if they decide to keep it...
