Interesting. I like the square-grid street plan: very permeable. Looks like they made a big effort to put the arena portion as far from East Sacramento as possible.

Ambitious...let's see what happens.

(broken record alert) It seriously needs a streetcar.

Kings Moving?

I just heard Sam Amick of the Bee on 1140 predicting that next season (2009-2010) will be the last they play in Sacramento.

I hope he's wrong.

Quit listening to these jackasses who are just being alarmists because they have nothing else to talk about!
The Kings are not going anywhere. Its more of a risk to move to a city and rebuild than to revive what the Maloof's have had here. Our circumstances are much different than Seattle's.

Thumbs up Who Remembers Sacramento Before the Kings Arrived?

I say build it! Bring economic vitality to the Capitol City. Just go Nocioni on it. Now is not the time to let Robert Horry get his shot. The current venue is older than Dino's petrified dung. Think of the short and long term gains we as a community can make if we build this. For those who can think of nothing positive, maybe they're overdue for a move to Fresno circa 1950, that pace may be more congruent with their paradigm. Or, one can imagine the economic potential of having the Railyard, a 21st Century Zoo, an expanded waterfront, and Expo. We are moving forward.

Yeah I remember Sacramento before the Kings. The Cal Expo plan on paper looks great but my main concern is that it is so ambitious that it might over reach what is workable due to the complexity of the financing and working with all the parties involved. Sounds like the only way to make a project like this pencil out is to include as many revenue streams as possible so a lot of things are going to need to break just right for it to make a go. Keeping my fingers crossed...

In a SacBee article, the Maloofs said they plan on drastically lower ticket prices next season. And great for them, I guess that shows that they care and want to make it work.

No offense but you fall into the same category of denial as most people in Sacramento if you honestly believe the Kings aren't going anywhere;

San Jose, Anaheim or Seattle would make great relocation cities. I don't think anyone takes Kanas City too serious because Kings attendance was poor when the Kings were in KC and the Kings were in the playoffs. Its a small over saturated market (albeit with a new arena). But if the Maloofs are looking for lucrative markets where they can make $$$, I don't think they will seriously look to KC, considering its small media market size.

But without a new arena at least approved soon, the Kings are as good as gone in the next two years.

I was listening to the Armstrong and Getty radio show while driving into work this morning and they had Mark Kreidler (longtime Bee columnist, currently writing for ESPN and others). He was talking about an article he wrote that will be appearing in Sactown re: the A's moving to Sacramento. To sum up his take (as expressed on the radio- I haven't read the article yet): there is a 25% chance the A's will move to Sacramento. I'll be interested to see the article when it's published...

So there is a 75% chance they won't come to Sacramento.

...and a 25% chance that West Sacramento will once again field the ball (pun intended) and build a proper stadium for them...

I would enjoy the A's more than the Kings. Especially as I get older, just enjoy relaxing at the park. Get to enjoy the nice marine influenced summer evenings in West Sacramento.

You can do that right now with 100% chance of seeing the Rivercats. Seriously, if
Sacramento has a 25% chance of landing the A's, then those odds are saying
that Sac is number 3 or 4 on a list below other cities they would rather
relocate to first before here. Were going to be used as a carrot-on-a-stick
so that the owners get what they want somewhere else.... the city was used
by the Raiders this way 20 years ago.
