the new paseo bridge about to be built in KC. Not sure if it's my favorite, but I think it's pretty nice. It is I-35/I-29 crossing the Missouri River

just an FYI, even though the name is always pronounced "mackinaw", it is spelled "Mackinac" when refering to Mackinac Island, Mackinac Bridge, Straits of Mackinac, or Fort Mackinac. the only time the word is ever spelled with a "w" on the end is in the name for Mackinaw City.

great bridge pictures.

Some of my favorite bridges are the ones over the Sumida river in Tokyo. There is about 1 bridge per km for about 26 km. The river cruise is a fun way to spend an hour and there are some guides to the bridges (in Japanese) for all the bridge-a-philes out there.

The largest and most popular; Rainbow Bridge:

Portland has the greatest collection and variety of bridges in the West.

This site is a work in progress, but here are a bunch of photos and facts about Portland's bridges (I won't spam you with 100 photos here, so the link):

For a single bridge, all my life I have loved the Golden Gate, then last year, got to drive across the Millau. I have fallen in love all over again:

I got a pleasant surprise today- While I was hunched over the ironing board, putting the finishing touches on my latest costuming project, somebody rang my doorbell...

I answered it, and was handed two packages. They contained a replica page of blueprints from the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as an actual freaking rivet from the bridge! Ye gods, I love Ebay sometimes
The shaft of the rivet is easily an inch thick, and the mushroom head is probably about 1.5" across. It's mostly been scrubbed bare, but if you look closely, there are still some tiny flecks of international orange paint still stuck to it.
Hard to believe that bridge is painted orange- most of the time it photographs blood red!

Don't worry, my little ebay purchase did not support an act of vandalism or abuse of a beloved landmark. The rivet was legitimately taken during bridge maintenance, and I guess one of the San Francisco museums or somebody was selling them, all nice and mounted on wooden plaques.

Millau bridge is pretty impressive for height and setting, but Golden Gate and Mighty Mack still own in terms of good looks Brooklyn Bridge owns too- short and stocky, but ruggedly handsome. And almost 125 years old? That's staying power right there.

Hopefully tomorrow, I will upload a screenshot from my History Channel DVD, showing Joseph Strauss's original concept for the Golden Gate Bridge. Holy Heck, that thing was FUG-LEE!! Thank Isis they didn't let him build it like that, and he had the good sense to come back with the design we all know and love today.

@ Amanita... ^^^ Seriously,... you bought a rivet of Golden Gate. Your love for bridges is really great. I knew it with time to time they will rebuild complete the Golden Gate changing its parts, but not immagined people buying its old parts.

I've just got a big fat soft spot for the Golden Gate
There's just a few bridges which are THAT COOL, that I would want to own a piece of one. And judging by the number of bids that rivet got, I was not the only one. Apparently other folks wanted to own a piece of the bridge too.

And my sewing machine's not the only thing getting frequent use- so is my sketchpad After looking at Mighty Mack, I've got a really cool character idea. If I get it done soon, I'll scan and post it. I swear, I get ideas in the damndest places sometimes!

^^^ it would be nice seeing your scan. I look forward to waiting until u put it here. I have a collection of all small building miniatures of the representation the city I pass through though some time in some small trip or even business tasks. I have in this small collection maybe 300 pieces all together in shelf of what could be a church, a monument or either a bridge, so my collection got really as big lilliput city in the vitrine I have, it is spreading in other shelves somewhere. It is kind interesting because in same small city you have Tour Eiffel, Redentor Christ, Burj Al Arab and Miami Beach Building all together, which is still impossible and yet unthinkible in earth. There are some trucks which carry some big houses, but not buildings and monuments yet. There are some small bridges like Rialto & Hercílio Luz... but unfortunatly it is not all small village or town I go, which make some kind of souvenier like that. So it is difficult to find. For example Sao Paulo is huge but there is nobody who make some kind of miniature to city representation, I feel too sorry everytime I look for in some kind of artesians fairs or souvenier shops. In Europe is easy but south America is quite too difficult to have it from a building, the landmark a city.... Just u know. When I saw your rivet idea, came some relation of the travel hobby I am or have.
Curious. I am not alone in this planet....
