Interesting thread! Governors Island is a nice place to visit. Thanks for your shots. I had never seen pics about this historic island in front of NYC.

By the way, the views of Manhattan´s skyline are amazing from there.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

This is truly one of my favorite places! Great shots! It's probably the most underrated real estate in the world! I am glad it is getting more use.

interesting that they're using Governors Island in an informercial for the Armed Forces since it's been over ten years since the Coast Guard left. I guess it's because of the long history. Having never been there before I was surprised at how large the island is. It's hard to grasp the size when viewed from the water or surrounding land (or even from aerial photos); lots of walking, although bike rentals are available. Missed a lot of the historic houses.

Great work.

Its too bad that many things are falling apart in Governors Island. Also I wonder if folks can come with their own bikes or do you they have to rent one?

they're gradually restoring all the buildings, but I kind of like the peeling-paint look Yes, you can bring your own bike, although I'm not sure there's an additional tariff for the ferry (which btw is now $2.00 round trip, the first year they've charged). But the good news is that if you arrive between 10am and noon, you can get a rental bike for free for one hour (evidently not that many people get there that early!)
