Belleville is definitely not a shithole....it has many beautiful areas.....nor is it poor... this was meant to be a kind of tongue in cheek post.
I've done quite a few posts on Belleville, most were balanced, this one however was not....as you pointed out Phil.

Kind of reminds me (in this thread) of sections of many Upstate New York cities. I enjoyed the tour, thanks Mark.

Never been to Belleville. I was actually expecting a bit of a big-box store kind of town. I came away impressed, a few fixer-uppers but some quality architecture.

Great grit. urban fabric suggestive of a city considerably larger than the posted population that I see when I drive the 401 to Montreal/Ottawa. Never did venture into downtown Belleville, so I appreciate the tour.

Belleville Illinois, which borders East St Louis IL, would love to have some of those midrises. Yums!

Nothing wrong with the North of England or Belleville for that matter.

I love Belleville. Me mum lived there for a few years in the 70s and used to take the bus downtown (StL).

I watch movies over there at the drive-in (now-a-days).
