Again similar to the wolf point discussion in sense these are safe conservative proposals for there locations which always seem to result in mediocre design at best.
I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with the size of this tower, frankly. It's the design that's a travesty.

Besides, if this is “subpar” for you than what is “par”? 15 more years of a vacant lot while proposal after proposal gets approved and goes nowhere (meanwhile our hair grows grayer)

I'm just glad not everybody's (in the development and design world) standard revolves around comparing a project to a vacant lot. Imagine our built urban form if that were the case.

What is the tall building under construction on Irving Park?, west of the metra stop.
Will have some great views, sticks out like a sore thumb

I don’t think that should be the standard, nor do I view that as the standard.

Not all vacant lots are equal, though.

Wolf Point and the mouth of the Chicago River, for example, demand a more high quality statement than a side street in Streeterville flanked by a dense built environment on both sides.

Plus, financial feasibility needs to be a consideration.

The Clarendale. Only 10 stories so it doesn’t qualify for the highrise thread. It’s nice density for the NW Side’s most prominent intersection, but it is (very expensive) senior housing so I’m not sure it will have much impact on the street life or businesses. But I could be wrong

The Sears across the street will also be redeveloped at a similar density, although not quite as tall.

As far as 354 N Union. Does anyone know of any updated or new renderings? I haven't been able to find anything.

Expect the West Loop/Fulton Market to continue to explode. I think we'll see additional proposals similar in scale and larger in the not to distant future. May hit the 500' mark further west sooner rather than later.

Stay tuned...

Via Block Club, the NIMBY saga over 125 W Maple continues:

Quote:
Designs for a controversial Near North Side apartment tower have ping-ponged between the developers and neighbors, who say the building is too dense for the area.

Now, neighbors say instead of the developers going back to the drawing board with their concerns, they offered money.
...
“I had hopes that you would listen to all neighbors and we could find middle ground,” Green wrote. “However, the offer you sent last week is nothing short of insulting. You literally ignored every single comment and concern expressed at the public meeting.”

Revcon has been drilling caissons for 410 S Wabash this week, thus another piece of infill replacing a surface lot is now officially underway.
