PHOENIX | 44 Monroe | 381 FT / 166 M | 34 FLOORS

A litlte late to the party as this building has already reached it's final floor, but I wanted to shine the spotlight on Phoenix for a second with a short (but relatively tall for Phoenix) tower that is a great addition to our skyline.

And as of this morning, all floors completed...the crown still remains to be built

I don't think it did, did it? And yes, it is the tallest in a while.

Tallest built since the completion of the 397' Qwest Tower (One Phoenix Center) in 1989.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but I can't find a thread on this tower.

I saw this IRL 10 days ago and it looks damn nice. Some other guy with a ponytail was also photographing it at like 7AM on a Sunday morning--not someone here, was it??

Nice to see the PHX get in on the highrise action. I've seen that Phoenix's downtown core is spread out but I've always have wondered why no height in the skyline?

Definitely a nice addition to DT phx. 44 Monroe definitely stands out and demands attention. Between this and summit @ copper square, these two buildings demand attention. Can't wait to see 44 Monroe finished.

The reason there isn't much height is because of the airport. Sky Harbor airport is only 3 miles east of the downtown core and due to airplane takeoff angles and such, there is a limit on how high buildings can be built.

In the downtown core itself, it's limited to around 525'. Further north in the Central Corridor, they could probably build to 800'+, but that isn't as desirable a location as the downtown core...and personally I would hate to see a building that tall there instead of the proper downtown.

That's pathetic, for a city as large as it is and spreading as fast as it is, why are they not allowed any buildings with decient heights let alone a downtown well more fit for a city its size. I would have always figured Phoenix should rate right up there with Houston at the very least... is it because downtown Phoenix is so close to the airport? I honostly don't know, but hopefully we'll see Phoenix began to rise sometime in the near

Yes, I answered it just one post up.

Really height isn't the issue though and it's not needed. They can easily build to 525' in lots of parts of downtown yet our tallest is 483' and has been since 1973.

Phoenix is the ultimate sprawl city and was built after the automobile already started taking over...unlike older cities like New York, Chicago, San Francisco or even Houston which you mentioned that was incorporated in 1837. Here is a startling fact...in 1951, Phoenix was 17.1 sq miles. Compare that to Phoenix today which is 515 sq miles. It spread outward and never really needed a center like traditional cities.

Things are slowly starting to change with people getting tired of 1+ hour one way commutes and they are starting to move back toward the central city. We don't need 1000'+ buildings, we need 20+ 400' and we would be in much better shape.

That's a nice building. I like that the top isn't too flashy/over the top. I really like the base most of all and the facade looks nice.

It does not sound tall. However when you look at it coming up on the skyline. It looks pretty tall. I like where it is being placed. Keep posting the photos they are nice.
