Second, you are blind if you think only New York is capable of building high-quality towers. I mean, New York City isn't even building the towers, individual developers are doing so. And many of the same developers - SOM, Studio Gang, RAMSA, and many others - are active in other cities in the United State and around the world. My original post didn't even compare NYC to other cities in the US. You shifted the conversation and conveniently failed to consider that many other cities around the world are also building high-quality skyscrapers. You're being myopic if you think NYC towers are on some plane of existence above everyone else. There are many towers being proposed in NYC, like 15 Penn (bringing it back to this discussion) that are atrocious in their design. There is no elegance in this, nothing other than brutal height and mass. For every 1 Vanderbilt, there are half a dozen Gene Kaufman designs in this city. Cherry picking only the cream of crop doesn't really help your argument. It's ok to look at something and just accept that it isn't the best. Hopefully, something nicer and more refined will be built next to it.
Are you taking a rhetoric class at SUNY Stonybrook? You take this a bit seriously. Relax, dude.

SOM, Studio Gang, RAMSA are architectural firms, not developers. Developers hire them to design their buildings/projects.

Poor choice of word on my part. Those are architecture firms. Related, Tischman Speyer, et al, are developers and active in other cities in the US as well.

People, this isn’t a thread about architectural trends around the world. It’s a thread for 15 Penn, or Penn 15 if you like it that way. Post accordingly. You can have your architectural debate elsewhere.

Looks like Google Maps is seeing the future.

Already using the marketing name.

Business Center!

I do want to know though what the guy was thinking when he wrote "train station with helpful staff" and "very clean and amazing workers". Just on a philosophical note. Ain't nothing helpful or clean about Penn Station. It's the opposite! Clean is when there are only two vomit stains heading to track 5... not 3... but two!

I noticed Vornado has also been putting up Penn District signs on development sites.

Wow! That Penn15 is huge! It’s so big, long, and thick! I bet when it’s completed the owners will be throbbing with excitement! Building this is going to be long and hard, but in the end, it’ll climax with a burst of creativity!

The version that tapers at the top is still what Vornado's website shows.

Yeah, they’ve been doing the pre-demo stuff. We’ll start to see visible demo taking shape this year.

I thought that some people were saying that there’s a new version that doesn’t taper.

AT NYC’S HOTEL PENNSYLVANIA, INTERIOR DEMOLITION HAS BEGUN

Quote:
New York is about to lose the historic Hotel Pennsylvania. Demolition of the 103-year-old Beaux-Arts structure designed by McKim, Mead & White began last week in earnest. Dump trucks and garbage compactors stand by on 32nd and 33rd Streets as a constant stream of crushed metal, glass, and cinder blocks are hauled away by construction workers. While the exterior of the building and the physical structure itself likely won’t be demolished for another couple of weeks, the current interior demolition work goes far beyond the removal of mattresses and furniture that occurred last November.
Quote:
The demolition of the Hotel Pennsylvania is part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s Pennsylvania Station Area Civic and Land Use Improvement Project. This plan entails razing all buildings in a three-block area surrounding Penn Station and replacing them with glass office towers akin to that of Hudson Yards. The project is being spearheaded by the Empire State Development Corporation, which held the second of two public hearings on its plans last Thursday. Over 450 people attended and 259 spoke during the public comment period, with 85% of those who spoke opposing the project. Many advocated for a reorientation of the Governor’s project away from real estate development and toward modernizing Penn Station along the lines of ReThinkNYC’s proposal. Instead of more glossy high rises, many commented that Penn Station should be brought out of Madison Square Garden’s basement, have its platforms widened, and be converted into a European-style through-running station.

Again with the misinformation. Anyone who can do minimal research would know the hotel has long been planned for demolition by Vornado. It has nothing to do with the governor’s plan.

"This plan entails razing all buildings in a three-block area surrounding Penn Station..."

What? Was this article written by an algorithm or an intern?
