Pleasure to be back using my rehab home's one shitty computer coz my other one kicked the bucket almost two months ago and I'm waiting for what I hope is a kick-ass new MacMini.

But to the point, This tower is IMHO unique given the height of both cantilevers......

But I'm sure many of you who are expressing consternation about the overall architecture might have second thoughts if there were spires connected to them, the one on the lower-cantilevered section reaching to a height above the upper one.

Eh? Imagine that?

I was thinking about this tower as I looked up at 270 yesterday...

Fine, just get it built.

Meh, the only redeeming parts of this tower - aside from it's height - are the lobby (which is exquisite) and the observation deck. Otherwise it manages to be both boring (the facade treatment) and awkward (massing of the upper floors).

Beautiful building. Very Rem Koolhaas. The top really adds something special to what could have been a dull box. Compre this to the sister tower, 432 Park (the two make a cute couple). Do you see how much a crown can turn a mundane piece of crap into something iconic? Enough with the flat roofs with no crowns like 432 and CP tower. This crown really makes the building.

This supertall is so outclassed by its immediate neighbors...

Me too, sorta. I still don't *love* it but I used to really not like it and now I appreciate it a bit. It's basically just 432 park avenue, a bit higher, wider and with a mutilated top

The scale is awesome, nearly 1,600 feet and not skinny

What would be a starting timeframe for this tower? Has that been mentioned yet?

So much more to this tower than we've seen. I think it will be an amazing tower. It would be better if we got the crown the skyline so deserves, but you're not going to get that at this location. This will be our "floating" supertall.

The scale is nuts. This tower is very impressive in height, and the crown is very bold.

This thing is hideous. WTF is wrong with the developers/'architects'?

This is probably the ugliest building in the world, maybe outside of 4th-tier Chinese cities, going up right now. Nothing this bad, this tall in North America / Europe, that's for sure.

I love it. Probably the best Midtown supertall after 111 W57. The lobby is ridiculous and the crown would be iconic.

And, yeah, as others have mentioned, this looks like a Rem design. I love Koolhaas, so very happy.

I on a personal level am not feeling it at the moment, but I also said the same thing about 432 Park which now, isn't too shabby. You know, kinda fits in, and the skinny kid on the block, but damn in he tall!

Possibly this might grow on us, but I'm still awaiting closer up renderings and more information on the tower.

A graceless way to top off the New York City skyline, that's for sure. Hopefully they revise the design before this is built.

You can sort of surmise that the building is not planned to have a great amount of architectural/visual distinctness from its premise. Based on the thread, it is being planned mostly to give the developer bragging rights as the tallest NYC residential tower. That's why it is a mere 6 feet more than the Norstrom tower. To me, sort of sad to think of some of the egos involved in this new NYC building boom. Just my opinion - don't jump all over me...

Well I think we've established that this design is certainly controversial.
