Chatham, Ontario

Chatham (population 40,000) is located in Southwestern Ontario, about midway between Windsor and London. Despite the
area's economic stagnation, Chatham has managed to keep much of its historic architecture, which includes many fine
Victorian mansions, in excellent condition.

OMG! my friends and i went on a roadtrip to canada and we stopped in this town to find a hotel. we drove around this entire town looking for a hotel, and we eventually found one in an industrial looking part of town. anywho, it was a nice place. the downtown is real cute and historic. oh, i love pictures with sentimental value...

I didn't know there was a real downtown when I stayed at a hotel off the 401 a year or so ago.

I always remember this place as Sylvia Tyson's (of Ian and Sylvia) hometown.
Some great contrasts between old and new although the old is really, really nice.

Country singer Michelle Wright also came from a village near Chatham.

But the most famous person to come out of Chatham is Baseball Hall of Famer and 1971 Cy Young Award winner Fergie Jenkins

Chatham has some nice architecture but I battled the sun on this tour. So I thought I'd give Chatham another chance by remastering the original photos and adding a few that I originally didn't include. All photos were taken in March 2007.

Nice pictures. I considered going to Chatham and exploring the town this past Summer when I went to London. Maybe this year I will be back in that area and will get a chance to see it.

I thought my old man was Chatham's most famous native. (Wallaceburgers went to Chatham for delivery back in the day). Seems there are others.

Remarkably well preserved place. I'm guessing there was some form of coordinated civic effort that made this happen.

Shit... That is beautiful, I lived in Windsor for three years and never went into the city. I am regretting that I didn't as I love the way they have perserved so much of the brick row building downtown. Very nice architecture; very different than the rural farm area image I had in my head

I think Wallaceburgers are back to being delivered in Chatham, now that Chatham controls everything services have been slashed at the hospital in Wallaceburg.

Anyway, I believe that there has been some public effort to maintain and restore buildings in Chatham. If you look closely at the pics, quite a few of the stores are empty but the buildings still look nice. I know the Capitol Theatre has received funding from the province. Obviously this has been a tad controversial in places like Wallaceburg, which is literally falling apart.
