If you look carefully at #4502, it's interesting how the spire is ever so slightly out of plumb with the apex of the crown.

Yep...King Vandy, Queen Chrysler and the Three Musketeers.

^ From that angle, that's more or less the finished product.

Looks like we'll be waiting just a little longer for the lighting, but here's a look at where we stand otherwise...

IDK if its just the angle, but looking at other photos, come to think about it, its not perfectly centered. Not that I have OCD, but I wonder it was maybe to give the illusion that the spire is taller than it really is (when viewing it from certain angles).

On a side note, NY Times tower probally looks better without a spire. Sticking a spire that is just 2' thick Home Depot plumbing pipes elongated 300' is not a spire. BOA, now that's a spire. NY Times, eh... not so much. Yet its a super tall!

The way the spire is shaped is intentional, the south and west faces of the spire are angled. The north and east faces are straight

Yeah the spire thing is an optical illusion.

This photo is right out of Sesame Street "one of these things is not like the other..."

4 beautiful spires and one butt-ugly spantenna (4 times Square), which is -not coincidentally- owned by Durst, who is solely responsible for other spantenna on WTC-1

4 Times Square has the best modern spire in Midtown. It's looks great, with its quasi-industrial/Tokyo-Osaka feel.

Also, it's the most substantial modern spire in Midtown (even though it's technically not a spire).

Vandy is getting a new neighbor, just a block north, at 341-347 Madison at 1,050 ft. That's just a little higher than the observation deck. But it'll just block a portion of the view of 270 Park.

That's interesting, never heard of this plan before and would like to know more. At that height it'll be a bit taller than the Chrysler building.

It’s actually one of the older proposals in that area, and likely would have risen along with Vanderbilt if not for a years long disagreement between the city and state about the sale of the old MTA headquarters. Enter the pandemic, and the urgent needs for MTA funds, and you get instant progress. Like Vanderbilt, and the rest of the towers in the area, there will be direct connections to transit. More here...
