So the white spots on the map are potential stations that might get built later? Im surprised there isn't a Griffintown station in phase 1 as that would be a big plus if a baseball stadium is to be built near the Peel bassin.

The Caisse CEO has already confirmed that the REM would have a station for a future baseball stadium.

The fact that the potential station is referred to as "Wellington/Bridge" suggests that the stadium will not be built in Griffintown, but instead in the Wellington/Bridge area, on the opposite side of the basin.

But the Wellington/Bridge station won't get built in phase 1 right? That means its gonna take a while before we see some baseball action in the Point.

What stadium? There will never be a stadium. In what fantasy world are you living? Baseball in not coming back to Montreal, ever.

The station will get built when/if a stadium gets built, not the other way around. I guess it isn't impossible that Montreal lands a baseball team by the end of 2020, but that's a whole other debate.

Ils se gardent l'option à cet endroit, sinon l'emplacement des stations n'est peut-être pas final, et on pourrait avoir des changement dans les 5 prochaines années.

At the very least, I'd be hugely surprised if major league baseball did return.

Why would be want a half-empty stadium anyways? And who would pay for it? Tax payer's money, no way I'd support it.

I am very curious as to what the city plans to do with the discovery.

Also, can anyone explain why the REM system will be separate from the Montreal Metro?

the REM will be our ''above ground'' Metro. There will be intermodal stations to provide a link between the two. + commuter rail

here's a new map of the proposed route for the REM.

the West Island portion of the tracé should look like the Vancouver SkyTrain.

The Caisse has released new information.

- Entirely grade-separated (which we already knew)
- Safety barriers at each station plus elevators and wifi
- A total of 2.8km of new tunnel on the south portion and between 2 and 6km for the West portion (around the airport)
- The portion to Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue will be entirely elevated
- Staff at every station for information purposes (very much like the Canada line)
- Fares entirely integrated with the Opus card and similar to Metro fares

Tunnelling beneath Eglinton Ave. for the Crosstown LRT
Quote:
The Star took a rare trip Tuesday down into the unfinished Eglinton Crosstown tunnel.

Just behind the drill head in the gantry area, workers prepare segments that make up the inside wall, as the Eglinton Crosstown makes its way to Yonge St. May 17, 2016. (BERNARD WEIL / TORONTO STAR) | ORDER THIS PHOTO

Quote:
Passengers will eventually travel the Crosstown’s 19-km route (10 km of it underground) in sleek light-rail vehicles built by Bombardier. But for the moment a workmanlike 30-ton diesel locomotive transports workers and construction supplies in and out of the tunnels below the surface. It takes almost 10 minutes to travel the 1,700 metres to where the boring machines are doing their work.

Cutting edge cutter

The tunnel boring machine Don is barely visible here behind its supporting machinery. But Brown, likens the borer to “an earth submarine.” As it eats through the earth, crews use a computer-guided device called a vacuum erector to lift and fit the concrete segments along the inside of the borer’s circular frame. As the machine moves forward the rings of concrete are left behind, grouted into place.

I believe the city is soliciting people who may have ancestors buried there to come forward. The plan is do DNA testing on the remains, then re-bury them in another cemetery.

Since the initial discovery of several bodies on Queen Street, another body has been found one block to the north on Sparks Street. Obviously, the construction of many buildings in the immediate area would have unearthed other remains many years ago. The question, what happened to those bodies?

Interesting how 4 of the 5 potential stations are centrally located. If none of them get built, there will only be 1 station in the core area. Almost makes it seem like this is designed to act more like a commuter line, but it's going to have high frequency service, is it not?
