#2 made me laugh. It became my choice when I started reading all the fine print. Where else can you pick up beer and a hair weave for your date?

I *knew* you were going to pick that convenience store, HomeInMyShoes. I was going to take that exact picture, but I suffer from severe laziness with chronic apathy. Excellent pictures all.

^Are you shredding a letter from Pat Fiacco's office? Awesome. You should watch some Detroit city council footage.

I went with one, reminds me of the local stores around here.

Very interesting photos

What at first seemed to have been a strange topic has produced fine pictures and an insight into the small service business. altho customers don't seem to be part of the mix. There is a sense of struggle in all the photos.

#2 and #10 show a strange opposition 2]my vote] sells "everything" but doesn't cater to its customers, from the hydrant in front prohibiting parking,to the signs probably aimed at the local teens; while 10 is very welcoming but seems to offer very little. Is the language Africaans?

It would be nice to have the locations so in our travels we know where to shop.

Again, a fine set of photos.

I chose the topic because I've long been fascinated with the smaller stores and more intimate streetscapes that were a part of our cities, but -- at least in North America -- are disappearing behind the onslaught of bigbox stores and super grocery stores and even the more modern convenience stores like 7-11 and Mac's. I'm a bit surprised we didn't get some of the newer ones (come on Edmonton where's the photo of the new Mac's on Jasper Avenue around 118th Street) or some closeups of weird displays inside.

I also find that in the stores that have survived the corporatization you can see a lot about the history of the people in a given city. In Regina, it was the Chinese immigrant population. These are the last bastions (along with the local restaurants) against a corporatization that leaves every city block looking like every city block in every neighbourhood in every city across North America.

Here's another one that no longer exists (so I'm told.) It used to be on Elgin Street in Ottawa. Photo by me on film in 1992 maybe?

3 or 4... 3 for the old painted pepsi signs, 4 for the lighting.

Can't choose.

My top picks were #2, because of that sign... and also #8 and #9 because they were such well done pictures.

However #8 has all the right components. It is a well done shot...it has a unique flair and it has attitude, it is the most original one of the group.
