There was a time, during my time in NYC, that I worked as a tractor-trailer driver, doing a peddle-run (term for local pick-up and delivery) covering Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. Back in 1979, Long-Island City was one of the routes I had. Now, when I visit the city and see the vast changes, I am amazed. Long Island City does not at all resemble the place in which I worked then (I also attended Aviation High School, not too far away, graduated from there in 1972). Then, it was a manufacturing hub, the company names I can rattle off (Eagle Electric, Swingline, Breyers Ice Cream,Graybar Electric, on and on).
Things sure do change!! That assemblage of new towers are quite a sight.
