There is enough clout on this team and the project could generate enough goodwill that city hall will probably figure out a way to help pay for the thalia connection and get a soft second program together. The city should be able access federal/state pots of money for new road construction. And if it doesnt work the site has great zoning based on what they paid for the land there are plenty of other market rate options they can pursue.
Interesting. Thanks for the information! Best of luck to them--that's a noble cause and it's definitely great to see these properties be redeveloped.

I am hoping they succeed as well. We have to be able to provide diverse range of housing options for all residents of the city. NOLA is certainly not the only city really struggling to provide housing for middle income brackets. If anyone is interested in reading more on this issue i highly recommend this website:
https://missingmiddlehousing.com/

I think there is a book on it as well. Once you read it you realize why it is so difficult to build anything other than market rate or highly subsidized units for really low income people. I hate to say it but NOLA and too many cities around the country are not capable of handling population growth because of existing zoning codes and neighborhood opposition which is why there is an affordability crisis. Another great book on the subject is Golden Gates by Conor Dougherty.

I agree the zoning code absolutely should be streamlined to make it as easy and simple as possible for developers to build affordable housing for the middle class. Tulane Ave and blocks on canal by hospitals should be lined with projects like the LSU Dorm or 2424 Tulane.

I do think the museum should consider aligning the rest of the campus lighting to better mesh with the canopy lighting too... makes it more cohesive.. they may be planning to do that already

All things are possible with discounted land... doesn't happen very often though!

Any idea what's moving forward at the old Bywater Naval Complex? Last I had heard was that the old mid 2010s project to convert the front building to housing and the back buildings into a resiliency center had basically fallen apart.

Something from Joe Jaeger it seems with mostly apartments etc was announced earlier this year, so that seems most likely

Ochsner to open new 'super clinic' in old Sears store at Clearview Mall

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...aa9961caf.html

Ochsner Health plans to open a 185,000-square-foot "super clinic" in the vacant Sears building at the Clearview Center in Metairie, officials said Thursday.

The clinic, which will open in late 2022 or early 2023, will provide a raft of outpatient services and care, Ochsner CEO Warner Thomas said. It will also give the local health care outfit a foothold on Veterans Memorial Boulevard, in one of the region's busiest commercial corridors, while at the same time helping breathe new life into a space that's been largely dormant since Sears pulled up stakes two years ago.

"We have many patients that come from that area," Thomas said Wednesday

We are starting a historical renovation of a theater building in Uptown New Orleans; the building has seen a lot in its lifetime, giving it historical importance in the city. We're excited to team up with CICADA to renovate this building to be used as commercial office spaces! #PEC #construction
