The Bywater Hotel on the river is def the best iteration of the building thats been planned there over the years. A rooftop bar/food should make a killing there with that view

Joe Jaeger makes the news again. He should really just sell this building (hello Domain!) and the old Canal St. Hotel to someone who can actually put these properties back into commerce. I initially had high hopes when he bought both of these buildings, but that turned out to be a false promise.

I have no idea what will become of the old Times-Picayune site, but I hope he sells that too. It's still a good spot for Top Golf to come in and finish the project.

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ANNOUNCES $5 MILLION REGIONAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY PASSENGER FERRY GRANT AWARD
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans recently announced the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (NORTA) has been awarded $5.6 million through the Passenger Ferry Grant Program. The program directs funds to projects that will enhance and revitalize passenger ferry systems in urbanized areas.

"The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority is the largest public transportation provider in the New Orleans-Metairie Metropolitan Statistical Area, and this grant is a welcomed addition to our City's transportation system," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. "This award is another great example of how we are leveraging federal dollars to improve our aging infrastructure and quality of life for all New Orleans residents and visitors."

Mayor Cantrell wrote a letter in support of NORTA to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in September 2021 during RTA's application process for the Ferry Discretionary Grant Program. With this grant, NORTA will replace a landing barge at Algiers Point and modernize a passenger ferry — a project that will ensure safety, a state of good repair and will improve service reliability for its vessel fleet. The Algiers Point project and plans to modernize the Levy and Armiger Ferry Boats was included in RTA's 2021 application request seeking support to modernize the region's aging transit infrastructure.

Harrison Cove in Lakeview Grocery supplies fresh home-style prepared foods available hot for breakfast, lunch and dinner, accompanied by a full salad, soup and healthy alternative breakfast bar. RGGC is currently renovating this space to expand the dining locations available to their patrons. The exterior storefront will be demolished to encompass the existing porch area as inside dining, along with the installation of new interior finishes and a new exterior skin on the restaurant space.

The missing block of thalia has already been built and the owners are in the process of turning it over to the city. So its currently private but will be returned to the city at some point this year (really just depends how fast the city approves and processes it).

Oh man blass their hearts. My company I believe built the first new street on the east bank of orleans for decades and it took forever to get them to accept it. No one was alive in the office that knew what to do. Hopefully the process has been cleaned up since then .

U.S. 11 Bridge set to open by end of March

U.S. 11 Bridge set to open by end of March

NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. 11 Bridge is scheduled to open by the end of March.

The rehabilitation project included concrete and structural repairs, grid deck replacement, painting, installation of a new fender system and the rehabilitation of electrical and mechanical systems on the two drawbridges.

The last remaining task before opening the bridge is to balance the moveable spans.

Initially, the contract called for concrete block counterweights, but the moveable bridge leaf was too heavy. Engineers performed multiple calculations and determined that steel counterweight blocks were instead needed to balance the bridge. At that point, the contractor secured and installed all steel counterweight blocks that vendors had in stock, but additional blocks needed to be fabricated. The bridge components are manufactured offsite by various vendors.

Over the last two months, two shipments of steel counterweights were received and installed.

DOTD, like many other businesses, is feeling the impacts of shipping and manufacturing delays. Tuesday afternoon, the contractor received 10 more pallets of steel counterweights, but the complete order did not come in. Six additional pallets are expected to ship soon. The weights are crucial to balance components of the bridge. Initially, the final shipment of weights was scheduled to arrive on February 4.

In addition to the challenge of balancing components of the bridge, the contractor has worked through typical structural, mechanical, and electrical issues. These tasks are common for major mechanical bridge rehabilitation projects.

Despite these setbacks, work is progressing. This week, the contractor began striping the bridge and continued completing punch list items.

The $28.36 million project began in August 2018. This major reconstruction project has a contract time of three years. Since then, multiple weather events, COVID-19, and other unforeseen circumstances have delayed the reopening of the U.S. 11 Bridge.

All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

What exactly does this mean? Are they building a wall akin to the wall barriers on I-10 in Metairie?

It's already rebuilt! Looks like it will be public to me. A few of the houses are already going up fast. I think this will be a really great development, especially paired with the apartment building across the street
