Hopefully this works out, this would be the 3rd possible project for Belledune that could take shape in the next few years. From what I hear, Maritime Iron has already been in talks with local nbcc to form future workers. If they all go ahead we would see a mini boom.

Dalhousie recently gave a building they took over from the old abitibi-bowater. The 22 000sqft garage was given to the united brotherhood of carpenters of Amercica to train workers on safety on worksites... the article also hints that this would be linked to the upcoming Maritime Iron facility in Belledune. There would be need for 1000 workers for the construction of the facility over several years.

There is more and more noise about this project. This can only be a good sign!

Interesting and positive article about the port of belledune.
Mentions they have 12 possible projects in the plans, with 3 of them being large.

It is a surprisingly large facility, full of potential and with no restrictions when it comes to land, 1600 acres is large but there is even more land available if needed.

Of the 3 large projects, Maritime Iron and Arianne Phosphate both have plans to build facilities in the near future, investing close to 1.2 billion. Not sure what the 3rd one is but there is several things up in the air at the moment.

When they start rolling, there will be a boom in the region and lots of job creation. There is already a commercial boom in the region, things will only get better!

I remember the council voting on a study for a water facility. They only have wells up there so they would like to provide running water as it has been a deal breaker on some smaller projects. They have plans for a light industrial park in the works also, i figure around the Turgeon exit off highway 11.

The Carrefour Assomption in Edmundston could be sold, an agreement has been reached with a Moncton buyer, inspection to follow and final decision after that.

The Northern Light is reporting that if the First Nation consultation and environmental assessment goes well and, site prep could begin this fall for early spring start on the Maritime Iron facility in Belledune!

So this one will become a reality!

This is gonna be some busy years ahead in that area.

Would post a link but not sure how it works with the new format of BNI online.

Well Pita Pit confirmed for Downtown Bathurst, walked by it today and work permit is for Pita Pit. Will be besides El Vino that is also undergoing renovations.

Subway closed on Main and Lucia’s cuisine will take its place once renos are finished.

On another note, Record year for the Port of Belledune, they need to expand again to accommodate growth, it will be the second expansion of the port in 10 years! Next few years will be interesting for the port as it puts itself as the bulk handling facility of the east coast.

There its official now! 17 million from the federal for expansion of the terminals, which means more place to put material and able to accommodate bigger boats!

The port has been a beehive of activity in the last few weeks!

The total price of the project is 34 million

They did not waste a second starting work, there is a large foundation being pored at the moment and a giant pile of rocks on the ro-ro terminal, i presume for the expansion of the terminal.

Also there was about 40-50 modular buildings waiting to be shipped out.

Good news for sure. I see they are hauling a lot of rock into the port.
Heard Irving maybe building a shed for wood pellets, maybe that is the foundation?

Could be, I heard rumours about Irving being involved in a wood chip/pellet project. It looks to be a long building but not very wide, all though it was probably the first few days of construction and the foundation was not completely dug up yet.

From the looks of it the port is presently occupied at 100%, I have never seen so much stuff around!

The current expansion I believe will be the last one they can do without expanding outwards of the current boundaries of the port.

Maritime Iron is also making lots of noise, lots of presentations lately, meeting with business community, shaking hands...Looks-like they are making things right. Next year as construction date start seems to be the common theme!

They are also talking of 60 + additional ships a year for the port with the project!
