Martin, the incriptions were, most likely, written by an archivist / member of the United Methodist Church.

This line is included in the description of the albums.

The L. A. GAS 'gas-o-meters' have been one of the most popular subjects on Nla.

Close, but in the aerial, the tip of the triangle is cut off. The photos of the gas station were from a year later and it is on that tip, I believe, which still doesn't tell me what is located to the west of it.

Here's a larger view of the corner from the original photo.

Ten years earlier (1928), it looks like the circular area was just a parling lot with a couple of rectangular buildings around the outside. I think the center detail may just have been a decorative garden.

We have visited the Tam-O-Shanter Inn on Nla...

but it's rare to come across a never-before-seen [amateur] snapshot from 1924!

Wow. I wouldn't have guessed natural gas. That's a little... crazy. Disaster averted I guess. I thought they might be oil storage tanks like those huge tank farms down in Carson and Wilmington. Thanks for the links. Great thread

One of my favorite streets in dtla. I also instantly recognized that Golden Gopher sign (3:38 mark) in Taylor Swift's "Delicate" music video:

There are some great historic downtown locations featured in the video including the Millennium Biltmore, Los Angeles Theater and Saint Vincent Court.

140 S Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach...at least the theater is still there. In the vintage shot it was playing "Road House" with Ida Lupino, Richard Widmark, Celeste Holm, and the especially pulchritudinous Cornel Wilde...all of whom we've seen on NLA before, of course.

Snow

I thought perhaps the car on the right had come down from the mountains..but there is snow on the other cars as well. (note the one by the Gallo billboard)

The station, itself, looks like a small grain bin. (especially with the metal roof and vent on top), like this one. .... I know because I'm surrounded by them.

Also note there's an address of "1121" on the Texaco station. Maybe that could help locate it?

We know about the snow in L.A. in 1949. We've also had snow photos on NLA with dates of 1944 (downtown), 1947 and 1948 (valley), previously.

Thanks for that video link badrunner. I enjoyed seeing all those locations you mentioned in it, as well as the L.A. subway!

How great to run around the Biltmore acting free as a bird like that! (I may be visiting there briefly next month!)

Since you posted about this area recently...notice in the GSV view above, in the lower right hand corner

where "Pinches Tacos" is now located. I recently saw this photo that I don't recall posted on NLA before that was
taken there when it was the Dudley Do Right Emporium.
