Well ya haha we didn't win the cup last year. And Canada is divided into 7 fan bases in hockey. And 6 of them hate the Leafs.

Yes, even if it says Toronto on the jersey. Same as with the Blue ways.

Haha exactly. If it says Toronto then no one in BC cares about them.

There are tons of Raps and Jays fans in BC. Rest of Canada as well. Maybe you're in an eccentric wormhole where people don't watch hoops or baseball.

I know a bunch of people in B.C into the Raptors. probably more then I am. Also if the Grizzlies were the only Canadian NBA team I would for sure be interested in them.

There are thousands of people from Ontario all over BC. Even here in unknown Castlegar a quarter of my friends are from there. They even have that funny Ontario accent for proof.

With nearly 3 million people and with no other choice in the country yes there are some fans in Vancouver. But remember it was the only bigger city in the country without a viewing party last year. We miss the Grizzlies, Steve Nash, and the Sonics.

99% of the Raps fans in BC won't even recognize those names and teams.

Weird, this seems to run contrary to whenever Jays fans fill Safeco in Seattle...

https://www.citynews1130.com/2019/06...ptors-viewing/

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – People will be packing pubs and other venues in Metro Vancouver for tonight’s Raptors game. What’s the best spot? There are plenty of options.
...
If you like your hoops a little less all-ages, most sports bars and pubs will be showing the Raptors try to take the win on home soil. You’ll need to get there up to two hours early if you actually want a seat. Places like the Red Card Sports Bar in downtown Vancouver fill up well ahead of tip-off.

---

The City of Vancouver nixed the idea of an official viewing party because there wasn't enough time to prepare for one, not because of lack of interest:

“The city will not be hosting or providing funding for an NBA Finals viewing event in Vancouver,” the City of Vancouver announced in a statement. “Events of this nature require adequate lead time to plan and execute successfully, and while we reviewed plans for a potential viewing event, we were not able to identify a location that was suitable and available for a series of up to seven games following the Eastern Conference Final that ended May 25."

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/vanc...-viewing-party

They also included this in their article:

"While the Raptors have their detractors for some folks on the west coast merely due to the fact that they’re from Toronto, over 90% of respondents (542 people) to our poll question said they would attend an outdoor viewing party."

I really doubt anyone in Castlegar plays basketball. Ive been there. The extent of most people’s exercise is limited to climbing into their lifted truck so they can drive on over to McDonald’s to enjoy a fancy dinner.

Also, Denscity loves using the no true British Columbian fallacy whenever the topic of Toronto sports comes up.

Haha people usually shoot hoops at the college's double gym or outdoor at the elementary school downtown. But ya not a huge scene. Most people just shoot hoops at home in their carport.

You'll also be surprised that I'll be hosting a Raptors viewing party for my Toronto friend who moved here to Castlegar.

Also if they do boycott playing I would love it if both teams came out took the knee during the anthems then just walked off the court. That would be a very powerful moment. More so then them just not showing up. It will also leave the broadcaster guessing that could lead to 3 hrs of discussions on the injustice that has gone on for far too long.

Celtics, Raptors continue discussions about possibly boycotting Game 1

source: https://www.boston.com/sports/boston...boycott-update

“Boycotting the game has come up for them as a way to again try to demand a little more action,” Nurse said. “I think that’s really what they want. I think there’s enough attention, and there’s not quite enough action, and I think that’s what I can sense from the discussion.”

Regardless if Game 1 happens as scheduled, it’s clear players are intent on finding alternative ways to use their platforms. Players did not elaborate on what else is being considered.
I applaud Canada's Raptors for their BLM efforts and hope Boston and Toronto agree to the boycott.

It begs the question.. isn't it particularly timely for Milwaukee to take some action? Maybe that's in the works.

Milwaukee has already boycotted their game tonight and all NBA games have been postponed tonight.

Not difficult to wrap one's head around. These fun nationality requirements don't come up when people start proclaiming X NHL Team is Canada's Team, I wonder why

If it doesn't say Canada on the jersey then it is not Canada's team.

Some folks just won't support a team from a British Colony.

Im proud that it was players of the only Canadian team that started this movement in the NBA. The league is in talks tonight but i would be surprised if all the first games didnt end up cancelled.

I hope they call out Trump and the Republican party for their lack of empathy and action as well.
