I wonder if we will be seeing two crews working at different heights simultaneously to compensate for the delay like they are doing at NEMA?

My company was planning on using the hybrid window wall system that is currently being used on Essex Hotel. But we did not get the project, so I don't know what will be installed. The company that got the job has used both types of systems in the past. It will be non-domestic product for sure. Money talks in this town.

My understanding is that the window wall fail is much more than 'balcony glass' and now also includes a fail for the different design for the window wall intended for the lower cantilevered floors/box...

I do love the concrete structure but quite frankly with a building of this magnitude, it's an embarrassment to our city that they can't get the cheap window wall right. Just my two cents, I know no one was asking for it.
How is this glass problem an embarrassment to Chicago? It might be a issue, with real financial results, for parts of the development team, but the city, no way. Any city would be glad to have this beauty, along with it's glass problems, in it's confines.

That's a well thought out and fair criticism to my comment. Although I am thrilled with the project in its entirety the glass issue just...irks me..for a lack of better words.

In simple terms what is the difference between a Glass V. Curtain wall? What situations are better served by one versus the other?

The way I had been told was that in simplest terms, Curtain Wall is higher quality(read more expensive), and Window Wall has more flexibility in design, but sacrifices in quality. I'm sure there are half a dozen forumers with more knowledge on the subject though fwiw

In super basic terms...

A curtain wall is a continuous sheath of glass/windows that hangs on the outside of the floor plate's edges

For the window wall, the panes are installed in between the floor slabs - it's not a continuous system. The edges of the slabs are then 'capped' with narrow glass panes to make it look like a curtain wall

You can see some of the capped edges in Solar Wind's shot here:

^^^ Nice photos.

You can see the curtain-wall brackets on the two exposed cores. Nice to see the glazers making good progress where they can.

I need to bring the good camera into work for a new skyline shot. Looking at the skyline through binoculars pre-dawn (drove friends to O'Hare for a red eye), Vista's crane is now standing above 150 N Riverside. My skyline's about to get a big change.

Crain's is reporting that a 10,640 sq ft condo on the 71st and 72nd floors is under contract now with an 8000 sq ft terrace. List price is $18.5M and they declined to name the buyer.

According to the developer, about 40% of the condos have sold, which is somewhere around 175 units sold now.

Hopefully the buyer is Jeff Bezos lol jk

I don't have a great handle on square footages, but does that mean the top of the middle tower is a private balcony?
