There was a proposal to have a joint CP/CN operation of part of the 2 lines or use either the CN or CP rotes to Sudbury. CN opposed having a unionized work force so the deal was scrapped. CN then abandoned their line. CP leased their line to OVR and subsequently cancelled the lease over disputes with OVR over who was responsible for major repairs. The mayors many towns in the valley didn’t want either line so the lines were both abandoned. Both railways diverted their traffic via Parry Sound to Toronto to go east/west to/from Montreal. In my opinion this was a mistake.

Why would those mayors not want the lines?

The FN blockades of 2019/2020 showed how shortsighted that is with CP stuck at Toronto and CN using ONR to move containers. I wouldn't doubt that they are having quiet talks of reactivating, if they can see it as a profitable thing.

I was driving west through Havelock a bit before lunchtime. For the first time, I saw a train pulling into the station: 3 CN locomotives + 8 grain cars. It felt like I hit a jackpot.
Sadly, the rail track condition was indeed horrible. The trains could be seen shaking as they made their way into the station.

I drove over the Havelock sub for 3 years commuting daily, I think I saw a train twice. Both times it was a fairly small train which was absolutely crawling.

It seems to be a problem largely with the Kitchener Line, which runs towards Brampton.

I've seen different proposals: ban e-bikes, provide secure e-bike parking downtown (at Union, maybe?), etc.

At Urban Toronto, discussion's been going for months, if not longer. Not a new complaint.

Waterloo Region presented the case for Go Train to Cambridge, via Kitchener Line and along Highway 24.
It only goes to Pinebush, though, not even Ainslie.
