Thanks a lot Hoss !!! Below my post on the Gladden in "The Brasher Doubloon", CityBoyDoug nicely posted the poster of the movie to make my words without picture more attractive. I wondered what meant that image which has nothing to do with the Gladden.

The site where you found the image still pays for you displaying the stock image, but the stock image is nearly always much smaller that the image you wanted, so it doesn't cost them as much. The "derangedcrimes" stock image is just over 20kb (it's actually called "hotlink.jpg"), while "The Brasher Doubloon" poster, though not huge, is over three times the size at over 65kb. If someone was hotlinking your images, which would you rather pay for?

The absolute(ly?) only reason I knew this is because it was the title of an IRONSIDE episode I saw back in 1970 (?). I was not a regular viewer of this series, but I believe I watched this episode because the title came on and I wondered what the heck that was. If I recall, this was the pattern on a map of some crimes being committed and Ironside explains what that pattern's called.

How did you come to know this, JMR?

I guess the best thing for me to do is delete their ''hotlink jpg" before they call the cops on me. I don't want to spend several years in jail for this .. Will the Mueller get involved? I may have to testify in Congress. I guess my days of posting photos on NLA are over. ......Or I may have to find a photo hosting site. I had photo bucket but they dropped me and millions of others like a bad habit. There are several members on this thread who would love to see me disappear.

As to LA interracial bands Love were preceded by The Mixtures, who appeared on Johnny Otis’s KTLA Show, and the surf band The Pyramids, who had the hit Penetration.

It wasn't a warning, just an explanation. Hotlinked images can always be blocked/moved/deleted by their owners, whether that's a small blog or a large digital library.

My Photobucket images are only still showing at the moment because I had a paid account. They may all disappear at the end of the year unless the company finally sees sense in their pricing policy for 3rd party hosting. If you find an alternative, please tell us, and continue posting your pictures.

I use and recommend https://postimages.org/about Postimage alias Postimages. It's free. The info page (at the link) says that there is no registration or login, and I guess you can do it that way; but if you do register (which is still free), you can rejoice in your very own gallery or set of galleries at the site.

I'm a novelist and among other things, I write a series of mysteries set in ancient Rome, in the last years of the Republic. In my researches I learned that the battle formation for a Roman legion was called a quincunx. They thought the staggered formation of the cohorts resembled the 5 (or V) as it appeared on dice.

We're here to help, ER. The car has just passed over Glendale Blvd. The green area beside the freeway is now tennis courts and a baseball diamond at Temple and Glendale. The houses you see are on Temple and are still there!

ETA: Wow, the downtown skyline sure looks, eh, sparse.

Here is the 1952 Santa Monica CD for the 1500 block of Montana Avenue:

...which shows both Sweet 16 and Colonial Knit Shoppe on the same block, although apparently not next door to each other. It isn't too much to assume these small businesses might move within the neighborhood over the course of the years. The street number for Sweet 16 is visible (1534).

Here is a modern view of 1534 Montana, the corner building which housed the Sweet 16 Fountain shop. When the GSV picture was taken, the address housed another restaurant, the now defunct Ox & Son:

Number 3 is the Frostonya Apartments at 346 North Vermont Avenue, seen here circa 1935:

The Frostonya Apartments are still standing, and can be seen here on Google Maps.

I believe buildings 1 and 2 have been torn down. Building #2 may be the California Highway Patrol, but if so, the building has been replaced or heavily remodeled.

"Downtown skyline looks sparse" Not sparse in relation to 1965. All you had then was City Hall and Occidental Insurance at about 450 feet. Te rest was mostly 150 feet. I remember 1965. 1977 skyline with ARCO twins, UCB (now Aon), Security Pacific (now Bank of America) etc. was magnificent. Of course today is better.

I think that building #1 is the Rosewood United Methodist Church with a different color roof. The tower is hidden by the trees behind the street lamp. The CHP building changed sometime between 1972 and 1980 (going by Historic Aerials), but I think that building #2 is the Departartment of Transportation building (impound yard?) just below at 411 N Vermont. Other than things moving around the roof, it has retained the same footprint since 1972.
