Atlanta skyline

Thanks for the pics. Atlanta really has a remarkable skyline when viewed from many angles: such a variety of heights, colors, materials, architectural details, all seeming to rise out of a forest. Really beautiful!

^^ Yeah, I have to agree... Atlanta has perhaps the most beautiful setting of any major American city, IMO. If only it weren't so damn car-dependent...

Probably because they're depressed. Have you seen the newspaper articles regarding the housing market, particularly as it relates to condos, in the Atlanta area?

Have they completed the crown yet? Tell me they're not going to leave it looking like graffiti painted on a cardboard box...

Awesome!

My only gripe with this building is that I think the crown is too similar in color to the rest of the building but that may just be because of the renderings.

I think this building turned out great. Definitely one of the better rivivalist, postmodern buildings to go up recently. The setbacks at the corners are perfectly placed, and the detailing around the crown really give it a nice texture.

Im sure this has been said before but this tower reminds me of the GE Building in NYC. It just has more glass. I love it though, and I guess you would call this architectural style Faux Art Deco?

I'm not trained in architecture in any way, but based on the post by our friend colemonkee I can surmise that new takes on things like art deco are prefaced with "revivalist."

I think it’s one of Novare's best buildings to date. I hope/wish that all of those stripe details that are along the top light up the same color as the crown does at night. I think it would give it a little more presence/elegance. When compared to the other Midtown scrapers it will help it stay kinda relevant.

Great photos too!

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm an unapologetic nerd absolutely in love with Atlanta, so you'll get some more high quality updates from me when the building approaches completion.

One could argue quite successfully that this building falls under postmodern architecture, which was a varied style that emerged largely in the 1980's as a response to modernism. It was an attempt, thought by many to be unsuccessful, of bringing back some of the elements of classic architectural styles (art deco included), but somewhat simplified and with contemporary materials. I'm drastically oversimplifying it, but you get the gist.

My characterization of this style as "revivalist" is simply because our "periods" of art and style these days tend to last less than 20 years, so theoretically we're out of the architectural postmodern "era" and into something else. But in reality, "revivalist" is just another name that really means the same thing as postmodernism.

I had no idea this was a Novare building. Definitely one of their best buildings, IMO. It seems their designs have been getting better and better over the last few buildings. Let's hope this trend continues.

Most of the condos at Atlantic Station are being auctioned. There was a recent article in the AJC about the Atlantic possibly going the same route. Although I can't find that article right now...
