This is the (soon to be former) house of Tom Girardi, the skeezy attorney who is being accused of stealing millions from his clients class action settlements. His wife is/was one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and the house has been featured prominently on the show.

Finally, I find a house in the upper elevations that is suitable for a bigger family, for entertaining(a large catering kitchen in the lower level), without feeling crammed or as if we're teetering over a cliff, it even has a flat area in the backyard. Oh, and this is about 1,300 ft above the bay.

5947 Grizzly Peak Blvd
Oakland, CA 94611

6bd/5bth
5,628 sq ft
1/2 acre lot

Price: $4,500,000

Our homes have better stories behind them. This one has the always desirable "Seized home of Venezuelan money launderer" label (picked up by a Chicago-land investor who put it right on the market). Can be yours in all its ostentatious charm for $55million:

I'm loving this house. Classic. Mature landscaping. Established area. Pleasant curb appeal!

I'm not loving the price though.

this is what $2m can buy you in my neighborhood. it' 4 blocks east of us, and roughly a 5 minute walk to the retail heart of Lincoln square

$2,175,000
2117 W Eastwood Ave, Chicago, IL
6 bed | 7 bath | 5,872 sq. ft.

zillow link: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2.../3707251_zpid/

streetview of the block: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.9659...7i16384!8i8192

i certainly wouldn't pay that much for it (even if i could), but some people are just smitten by new construction + giant raw square footage, i guess.

You can get one very similar in Detroit for a fraction of the price: https://goo.gl/maps/QhzxmH1UKs4YX4ff6

It looks like it belongs in a Long Island beach town.

Assuming your Google Street view is focused on this:
7372 Kipling Zestimate @ 195K. It's a 5 bedroom, 3 bath house. 1850 square feet.

Neighboring properties on the same street are estimated at 236K to 20K!

Yuck. That home is basically suburban McMansion sprawl layout/design/decor. It could be in any affluent newer suburb. It looks like the typical newer homes in Birmingham, MI, or the further out coastal CT suburbs, like Fairfield and Madison.

But I guess many want a suburban home in a more urban setting.

Speaking of new construction, check out Shia LaBeouf's new Pasadena home, built in 2019 but he bought it in 2020.

From velvetropes.com:

4 bedrooms • 5 bathrooms • 4137 sq/ft
Price: 5.5M (sold in 2020)
Valued: 5.5M

Edit: Actually according to Zillow, it's worth about $6.607 million right now.

Link: https://www.velvetropes.com/celebrit...3/shia-labeouf

It's near Caltech; I know the address, and you can look it up, but I won't disclose it. I've driven by the house, it's in a very nice neighborhood. Meryl Streep and Kristen Wiig also have nice homes in Pasadena (mid-Century ones); I've never seen them around town, though, so maybe they just own the properties and don't actually live here. I think Oscar de la Hoya still lives in Pasadena, I used to see him around Old Town Pasadena, I've even seen him inside Burke Williams.

^My absolute favorite vernacular is an off white (hopefully close to white as possible) stucco with a red tiled roof, so long as it the outside facade sticks with a Spanish theme.

Way too often do we see a brown stucco with a tile roof....NO.

the main difference being no 1/4 acre lot. that home has no "yard" to speak of, just a back patio and large garage-top deck.

and it has considerably more curb appeal without the obnoxious street-facing garage door of sprawl-burbia.

yeah, it's definitely tying to appeal to that nouveau riche HGTV aesthetic. it's 100% about "BRAND NEW CONSTRUCTION" and shoe-horning as much sq. footage as possible onto a smallish city lot.

or in other words: lots of money, little taste.

you can always get something more tasteful for less money, such as this early 20th century charmer (and you even get a small yard):

$1,525,000
4326 N Winchester Ave, Chicago, IL
6 be d |5 bath | 4,500 sqft

Thank god my lady didn't see this post! She loves Chicago and would move there in a minute. She's got me 50/50, but I love my AZ pool/sun lifestyle.
