LEEDS and LEEDs? Do Ed. Journal writers have any idea what they are talking about, or are they just writing while drunk?

Councillor urges work continue on South Campus projects

Sheila Pratt
Edmonton Journal

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

The province should step in to keep South Campus expansion alive now that the Expo bid is dead, says city councillor Don Iveson.

University of Alberta land south of Belgravia Road was the designated Expo site, with the goal of accelerating expansion plans. Last week, the Harper government killed Edmonton's Expo bid, citing concerns over potential security costs...

I'd like to see the Cross finally get enough funding for their real expansion plans... it could become quite the amazing facility.

I don't know of any space in the Cross that could meet the space requirements. I hope the 67mil means a sizable addition.

About of 3rd of the basement at the CCI is shelled. That, along with the addition of a new radiation vault in the basement will take up most of the money. They are also getting some new DI gear and an expansion to their pharmacy with those funds.

I think the idea of the CCI expanding independently is shelved right now. The most current plan is to see the CCI eventually merge with Edmonton Clinic South, Phase 2. Phase 2 will see the old Aberhart Hospital get demo'd, and the Edmonoton Clinic expand South and then curve West on University Ave. Into the old Mewburn Hospital site. There are also talks of a new urology clinic going up in the old Mewburn site. All in all, CCI will likely get additional space
in these buildings instead of getting a new building of its own. If this were all to happen, it would basically create one massive healthcare building that stretched from 87th Ave., down 114 St. to University Ave., and then West on University to 117 St.

^sounds about right... i have seen the 'long range' plans for the CCI in terms of what they would like and where the expansion would be and that is more or less the jist of it.

This might be the right move. Was there not some sort of long term plan when the Go/Saville center were laid out? As great as it is to have those facilities, their piss poor interaction to the surrounding (future) campus is going to be tought to fix.

How does that get fixed? Wrap the exterior of those big boxes in office space?

Good article.

It really is time to go back and review their goals, vision, and plan.

Man, I can't wait until CCIS is fully open to the public. Although I doubt I'll have many classes in it (I'm an engineering student, not science), I can't wait to go inside and take a look around for myself!
