With the massive Kent distribution centre being built at the far eastern end of the Caledonia Industrial Park, not far from Shediac Road, I wonder what the chances are that another access into Caledonia from Shediac Road will be built in the future?

Just playing around here.

I have a new iMac computer and I am learning about screen shots, and how to save them to iPhoto, and then upload the screen shot to Photobucket.

In any event, this is a screenshot from the pdf of the April meeting of the Moncton Planning Advisory Committee regarding a request to create a small residential subdivision off of Mill Road, backing on Humphrey Brook.

Now, let's see if I uploaded this correctly.....

Shift-Command-3 will take a screenshot and save it to your desktop.

Imgur.com is a lot quicker for single shot uploads

A new street is planned for the back end of the Grove Hamlet subdivision off of Shediac Road.

I hope you join the Mac community soon too. I recently bought a new iMac and it blows the shit out of my two-year-old Windows 7 machine.... I can't believe how much better it is.

Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott off of Harrisville Blvd at the rte 15 interchange - current status:

It still looks pretty forlorn and lonely out there all by itself but that won't last too long, what with the Kent and (rumoured) Sobeys to be built across the street and a (rumoured) gas station and restaurant combo to be built immediately next door.

I think this area will be unrecognizable in about five years time.

Some new info regarding the Kent Distribution Centre in the Caledonia Industrial Park:

- The site is 75 acres
- the building will be 383,000 sq ft and will be one of the largest buildings in NB
- the building will be 36 ft tall
- 150,000 tonnes of crushed rock will be used to prepare the site.
- 200,000 person hours of employment will be created during the construction period.
- the building will open in late spring next year...

Harrisville Plaza

Hmmm.. I see there is a new restaurant (I think) moving into the old pulse night club (Harrisville Plaza)location called Top Chicken & Bar.

Not open yet though. Also I see work has begun on construction on the opposite side of harrisville blvd as the new hotel today looks like they are making a road maybe?

Yeah, there is a planned road going in to service the land for a retail development.

This image was posted on the Halls Creek facebook page. Not sure if this is a serious proposal or not.

Although it does seem like this development has some merit in that it's not a carbon copy of all the other low density developments in the area, I can't help but worry that it'll draw some much needed higher density residential developments from downtown. Those buildings would look great along St-George or Queen streets, or even east Main.

I'd be more worried about the step-style road! Somehow I don't think it'll catch on...

Conceptual drawings are great, but I won't get excited about anything to do with that large of a project before I see steel going up.

No question. Developers' track record for actually building projects like these in this city is less than stellar.

Driving along Harrisville Blvd this morning towards Dieppe, I noticed that they have started clearing the land for the Kent / Sobey's development. There was a fair amount of equipment on site and quite a large dirt pile.

Sprawl? - yes I suppose.....

It should be kept in mind however that residential growth in Dieppe is spectacular and is also quite healthy in the Shediac Rd area of Moncton. The residents of these neighbourhoods deserve to have neighbourhood options for shopping, dining and entertainment.

I can vouch for the fact that, with the commercial growth along the western portion of Mountain Rd over the last several years, I am now less likely to hop into my car and drive across town to shop or dine.

I wager that my carbon footprint has gone down as a result.....
