Any one an installation artist out there? this project is subject to a 1% art budget no? Would be cool to place some durable interactive art.

I believe it's called a "launching truss" and is used to build the elevated guideway sections of the track. I think they hang below the truss and are put into place from there.

That's the new Peace Bridge. City saved a few bucks. It will be put in place shortly.

I don't know the technical explanation as well as others will here, but I have heard it referred to as a "launcher" and it will allow the elevated sections to be assembled. It will be pretty cool to see in action.

Aren't they trying to get rid of the elevated trains in NYC?

Well they have turned quite a bit of the old "high line" into an amazing urban park. That line was an actual railway line though, do you mean some sections of the subway that run above ground? I remember one of the lines coming above ground before the original Yankee Stadium.

The original section of the High Line Park was in fact designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, who also bid for Cantos.

Does anyone have any more insight into how this actually works logistically? I've been trying to figure it out and really only have some speculative guesses.

As far as I know, the trusses are all one piece correct? So how does it get staged below the launcher and between the two pilons and then get lifted into place when it is in fact longer than the distance between the two pilons- as presumably the go from center to center? Perhaps I'm wrong in believing that the truss is being lifted from below in the first place as opposed to slid into place from the eastern abuttment (in this particular case) seen in the pic.
