The entire building also recalls the Chrysler crown to me. Also I detect a little GE...

And still no 270 Park Avenue rendering.

I'm also getting strong vibes of this being a modern day interpretation of the Met Life North Tower, had that tower been built to it's originally proposed height.

Which makes me so happy, in a round about way we are finally getting that beauty built fully in a very similar form.

Yes. The closest we have to official renderings are the diagrams taken from the DOB, which aren't meant to be renderings.

For example, something like this should be released by Foster and Partners...

We usually have renderings released well before construction begins. But 270 is well under construction, and still no renderings.

While i think the design is mindnumbingly stunning, i admittedly thought thevery same thing. Maybe the top will still be tweaked. I guess we'll see.

Why was the height reduced? Should the thread title be updated?

Wow. What a treat. The first tower in the city to truly breach 1600 feet.

I wonder what impact this will have on the skyline?

I'm hoping someone who has the skill can draw something up.

we need sbarn back to do a NYC 2025 or NYC 2030 rendering.. the NYC 2020 renderings he made 5-7 years ago have all come to fruition, and theres a new cycle of skyscrapers beginning now

Anyone know if he's still on the forum? or if he's still doing rendering art?

This is a skyscraper that will look absolutely spectacular, both in the sky, and at the ground level. It's no less than this site and this city deserves.

The CB meeting tonight will focus on the relationship with Grand Central.

I thought the same thing, the article says 1600 and the drawing next to Vanderbilt looks about exactly that. I thought they were estimating but it may have gotten cut a tad (after looking at the drawing).

Not a big deal though, still an awesome tower! Can't wait for demo to being next year

It'll be amazing to have a near 500 meter tower with actual bulk.

This is a big boy too with that bulk. Almost 500 meters to the ROOF, bulky, and not a slender either. Might rival 1 WTC in terms of its overall dominance relative to its surroundings.

I just measured that drawing carefully. Assuming it's to scale, Grand Hyatt would be only 1556', in which case the article rounded it up to 1600'. Hopefully the drawing is inaccurate, scale wise.

^ Not that it would be accurate either way, but what do you get with MetLife?

It is a 1,600 ft tower. Whether or not they've reduced the height down from 1,646 ft, we'll know tonight. If so, I doubt it would be a clean 1,600 ft.

The Freedom Tower doesn't really have competition Downtown. Although taller, this tower would still have the ensemble cast of 270 Park, Vanderbilt, CPT, even Tower Fifth and 350 Park if built. Two of those towers would be just a hundred ft or so behind. This tower would be the obvious boss though. And we still have many more towers to be revealed, including some big boys in the Empire Station district. 270 better bring the heat.

At least now, we can envision it, and the renderists can get to work.

So based on the drawing (without the Lex perspective), can we assume the top of the crown will be an oval?

Probably not, just based on this...

But I've noticed that the columns resemble the columns of Grand Central. I just hope they don't allow sitting on these stairs.

There is a museum quality to the base...
