Baltimore Inner Harbor 2024

This is why I like SSP after all these years. Fantastic pics! I didn't realize Baltimore got a few more shiny glass towers (M&T Bank Building downtown, the taller condo a block from the harbor).

I am a hardcore skyline fan so i am skyline sensitive, what is the hazy skyline from afar? must be a city with notable size

This is looking North of Baltimore. It looks like a small city called Towson. It is in a higher elevation, and that is why it looks bigger than it appears

Thank you Shawn. It looks like M&T Bank is the biggest financial institution in Baltimore. M&T Stadium is their football stadium.

Yeah that show made me want to visit and I still haven't but was close in 2017 when I was in DC. I will one day I hear the food is amazing and is it true that the vibe in Baltimore is different from Washington D.C.? More laid-back big city feel maybe...?

Definitely more laid back, blue-collar, homey. Less transient. Totally worth seeing as a different place from DC.

I don't think many would say Baltimore is more "big city" though. DC is bigger, more cosmopolitan, more dynamic, higher density, etc. It wasn't always, but today it's not really debatable unless you have a pretty exclusive and unusual definition of "big city." That's not always apparent to tourists who only see the monumental core.

Ok I figured it was. I can’t wait to visit. Well I guess I was talking about the traffic and major league sports teams. It has all the amenities of a big city I would think. But you know more being from the area. I agree though DC is bigger but man the food was something to be imagined. I’m more use to soul food and not really use to the cuisines of other countries and that’s what DC offered. Could you post some food spots to visit or a Instagram food blogger who know all the good restaurants around town in Baltimore?

Well sure, Baltimore definitely qualifies as "a big city," no question about it. In terms of soul food, IDK, I live in DC. I could tell you some of DC's spots (there are plenty, but not as many as Baltimore), but I'm not really local enough to Baltimore to tell you their secret spots. There are tons of online resources like listicles and message board discussions, but TBH I'm just googling them.

Towson (edge city) 8 miles north of downtown Baltimore. It's analogous to Silver Spring or Bethesda in DC. Towson sits at ~400' in elevation and has a good chunk of buildings in the 150-300' range so they peak above the tree line.

The city proper has a good deal of skyscrapers/high-rises in the pipeline, so it will be interesting to see what gets built heading into the new decade.

Local to DC-Baltimore area. Baltimore is definitely a big city, it's just not Philly/Boston/DC "big". A lot of it comes down to the population decline and blight in areas, but it still largely retains the bones of when they were all similarly sized/density a few generations ago.

DC has more fine dining for sure. Baltimore imho has the better casual food and is through and through cheaper. The link below is a really good run down of the "go to spots".

Philly/Boston/DC seem like northerner cities I always associate Baltimore with the south. I think Baltimore is a big city comparable to Charlotte, Jacksonville, ATL, New Orleans, Charleston, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Little Rock, Memphis and Jackson. It has that southern charm that I would get anywhere in the South. But wait Baltimore is losing population? Sad that’s really sad. I think I know why but what do you think is the reason why?

Yeah I was like duck when I went to a fine restaurant in DC. Some of the dishes I tried I’ll never forget. They were good but I’m more into soul food, Mexican, BBQ, carnival food, desserts and Italian (mainly pizza). I’ve never tried seafood so I’m excited to try Baltimores seafood I hear yall have the world’s best seafood.
