O'Hare to add two new hotels, upgrade Hilton space
Quote:
One new hotel would go across the access road from the existing international Terminal 5 and have 300 to 400 guest rooms, up to 65,000 square feet of conference space, and related amenities. The other would have 150 to 200 rooms and be part of a new mixed-used commercial development on O'Hare's northeast side along Mannheim Road, north of Irving Park.

The city will issue a formal request for proposals for both this fall, and hopes to finish construction done by 2020. "There is significant interest" among potential developers, city spokesman Owen Kilmer said.
Quote:
The city also will seek a private developer to renovate and modernize the HIlton, "with a goal to accommodate large-scale trade shows and events as well as adding amenities such as spas, extended room service concierge services, and quality restaurants and boutiques," the Department of Aviation is saying in a statement.

if its TOD why does it resemble a 90s era parking garage. this is not a good design. but i support the concept...

The building at 611 N Wells that was speculated to be a goner has a permit up for plaster and lath repair. I'm presuming this bodes well for the near future of it. It looks like the windows are set to be replaced as well, and the fire escape has come down off of the front.

When I'd talked to a former resident of the SRO there, he said it was going to have a gut renovation.

Very exciting news for Uptown: Also, the JDL Montrose/Clarendon proposal finally passed after 5 years..380 units and Pensacola Place is adding 160 units and that is under construction. Stewart School will be 64 units in first redevelopment phase. Links below:

Former Union Park Lounge at Jackson & Racine getting replaced with a 6 story, 20 unit + ground floor business space building - issued permits yesterday (https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/2015...ark-sports-bar). Pretty close to 1035 W Van Buren going up right now. Wondering if this area is going to see more activity with new construction in the near future.

Alderman: CHA proposing Target store at Rogers Park senior high-rise

The Chicago Housing Authority is looking to turn the community room at a Rogers Park senior housing center into something very different — a Target store.

On Tuesday, the agency's board approved entering into negotiations with Three Corners Development to build a proposed mixed-use development adjacent to the Caroline Hedger Apartments, a CHA senior high-rise at 6400 N. Sheridan Road.
7 stories, 120 units, 35k sf retail (Target store), 2 floors underground parking

Maybe some other good news:

Sale of Old Home Squeezed Between High-Rises Falls Through, Could It Stay?

The developer set to buy a vintage row home sandwiched between new condominiums in River North has pulled out of the deal, leaving a chance the 128-year-old house could stay.

Fantastic- and that's just one of three buildings Cedar Street has planned for that 3 block stretch of Wilson. They're really betting on Uptown. I hope it works out.

I like that Target proposal for Rogers Park. This is exactly how public/affordable housing should be built: dense, midrise, mixed use, mixed income, close to public transit. Not isolated in low-density leafy culdesacs like Roosevelt Square. My only gripe is the parking, but surely some of that is for the Target:

It seems CHA is starting to finally embrace a decently urban vision, at Cabrini and Ickes and now Sheridan/Devon.

You will probably also like the Ickes redevelopment plan. It was the last thing I worked on before leaving DPD. Dense, with height at Cermak and State, retail with residential on top, variety of condo, townhomes throughout from 23rd Street to 26th, and mid-rise or possible tower near 26th (by expy). Approximately 850 to 900 units.

Awesome. Is there a timeline on this? Seems like CHA hasn't really been building anything of late

According to Wikipedia, Ickes originally had about 740 units, so this would only be an increase of 100 to 150 units, which isn't all that impressive.

^ and not all of the new housing would be CHA (probably only 30%-40%) so there's a big net decrease in public housing.

Plus, a big chunk of Ickes was given over to Jones HS for athletic facilities, so the actual density on the remaining land is probably similar to or higher than what Ickes was.

I am not sure that development in Rogers Park will be low income. CHA owns the land and may just sell it outright i thought. I could be wrong.
