Hydrovac truck and workers on site. The big hole was sloppily filled in a couple weeks ago.

Walking by this morning it looks like there is now a large excavator on site and they are removing the remnants of the foundation of the collapsed portion of the building. Not sure if this means that this one is now U/C?

I'll believe it when I see it!
If it is, it would mark the dawn of a new epoque in Ottawa.

Walked by again and it looks like they are going to be driving piles to shore up the sides for excavation. At least that's my guess. Probably why they refilled the hole.

If this is a Potemkin Village they're doing a good job so far.

Excavation has gotten pretty deep now. They have removed the mini excavator that was in the hole and are digging out the last of the dirt from above. Wondering if we’ll start to see concrete being poured soon?

I don't think so. Probably just one basement level for storage/utilities I'm guessing? Maybe they'll resurrect the old Duke of Somerset Pub?

I can't believe that I am actually seeing something done with this building. It has been a pile of rubble basically my entire adult life!

They seem to be just a bit deepter than the old foundations (maybe 5 feet). Probably just need to get this deep for the footings, maybe a bit more headroom. Really hoping this isn't a false start to the project. Don't get my hopes up.
