Those balconies on the Four Seasons are probably the most spectacular...for the residents, but look kind of odd to the rest of the world the way they stick out from the main structure. Unique for sure. And I agree with kevin and jdawgboy about the top of the Marriot. Unfortunately another flat top and lost opportunity. Since hotels generate a continuous revenue stream unlike condos and more like office buildings, you would think design elements could be elevated since the added expense would eventually be absorbed rather quickly, especially with the Austin market being so strong. In terms of our towers, Austin just seems to be stuck in nice but not great mode.

This whole building is reminding me of the 1960's reborn. The scale; not too tall, with a square tower. The boxyness, of it all with the blank window panels zigging and zagging. And then those color choices. Especially that yellow, orange, brown and white garage corner. The building looks very retro to me. Even the angled corner looks 1960's to me. I must be a bit off today.

I wonder if those light brown & yellow panels are some kind of metal mesh that's supposed to turn a darker rust color over time. Similar to the JW exterior. Kind of looks like stained wood from far away.

If so, it would fit in much better with the new Marriott's overall color scheme.

Now this building ended up being a nice surprise. It's different than anything around it in terms of coloration and window pattern and it is thinner than I imagined it would be when looking at the renderings. Pretty good infill.

Much better looking and noticeable than I had anticipated. Fills in a lot of interesting gaps nicely.

I agree also, on all your points. This one pleases me.

I knew these two buildings were being constructed differently compared to other recent projects. Kinda reminds me of how you see towers go up in Asia where you see the central core or shaft rise up first then the bones built around.

After viewing the billboard blocking the Fairmont in one of those pictures, I wish the CoA would pass an ordinance banning all billboards from the downtown I35 corridor from at least 41st St. to Riverside.

The only billboard I like is the "Welcome to Austin" Deep Eddy one.

I noticed on this pic the similarities of color with its sister the JW Marriott. I have not seen them in person from this perspective and am wondering if maybe the design used the same or similar glass and dark coloration for branding purposes here in Austin. I assume the Marriott name will be on the top of this one as well. I really like the JW and this one is looking very fine as well.

The colors look the same so I believe you are correct with them wanting to have a specific branding look.

I'm really happy with this one. I'll be curious to see how it looks when it's completed, but right now this is one of my new favorites.

Just roughly 14 or 15 months to go from start to where we are now. Seems like this went up rather quickly. I think it looks quite stylish. We don't have many tall square hotels, mostly rectangular, except of course, the lovely Element / Aloft. Its not mind blowing in terms of design, but it is different and different is good sometimes. It certainly is a value add to the skyline.

I like the slight angle to the right of the construction elevator. It is only on that sight making that different.

Tower looks nice, except for that hideous blank wall on the podium. I hope there's something going there soon or blocking that view in the near future.
