What's Happening in Saint Andrews?

Does anyone know what might be happening with the large tract of land north of the town? Most of the large parcels near Ross Point Road were all sold in February of this year...is it consolidation for a big development?

Case IH is opening a dealership in Salisbury, behind the DQ and adjacent to the TCH. I saw this sign about a week ago, but forgot to post.

This will be a big cool project for NB. That is a lot of storage capacity. Glad to see they aren't buying into more hydrogen projects, this is a sure hit.

No mention yet on location, other than NB.

New wind farm generates money and hope for Neqotkuk First Nation
Rachel Cave · CBC News · Posted: Nov 02, 2021 6:00 AM AT

Neqotkuk First Nation, formerly known as Tobique First Nation, in western New Brunswick has started making money from its wind farm in the southern part of the province.

The first payment came to about $430,000 and Chief Ross Perley expects returns will only get better.

"We had some mishaps with one of the turbines, which was down for a number of months, and we had some expenses," he said. "But put it this way: The community should see on an annual basis around $800,000 to $1.2 million going forward."

Perley says he's going to invest the money in much-needed infrastructure, including new housing and road repairs. He's also contemplating a wind power bonus cheque that would go out to families, possibly just before Christmas. "So they can do something for their kids," he said.

The Wocawson Energy Project, near Sussex, is named for a Wabanaki legend, a giant mountaintop spirit bird whose wings make the wind.

This is in the vacant lot next to shoppers. This was cleared a couple years ago. Huge project for Sussex.

Province rejects Port Hawkesbury rezoning request citing housing shortage

Even though this is more about preventing development, I think the town got it right on this one, and the province should reconsider. Flooding concerns are too often overlooked, and it sounds like flooding is already common in the neighbouring developed area. There would be other, more suitable land in and around Port Hawkesbury for the estimated 100 units they need right now.

The New Brunswick government is making a huge overhaul of local government. Less local service districts and towns, villages etc. They are being merged into larger municipalities. Very interesting read.

We've been chatting about that in the Politics thread. Overall it seems to be a good move. The consolidation seems to be focusing on the smaller communities and LSDs. This should both increase people's voices in general and help the smaller communities, even if they are combined with others. Maritimers have long memories, so any place that is merged certainly won't be forgotten.

Yup, 25 years for CBRM, and people still use the old town names as if they're still separate towns, not that I really disagree with that. It took a while, but I think the merger is finally showing some benefit that even locals would agree with (we're a stubborn bunch).

Just to be clear, all of the merged communities can keep their names.

Well the merged communities are expected to decide what they want to be known as. But I'm pretty sure we won't have the Village of "Bath-Centreville-Florenceville-Bristol" when all is said and done. Locally, those areas will still be known as their classic names I'm sure though.

Similar to "Devon", Nashwaaksis and Marysville" in Fredericton and "Lancaster" in Saint John. Been decades since amalgamation but some folks still refer to their original place names.

This is just how things go. If I had a nickel for every time someone said 'the old Woolworth's' i'd probably have enough money to resurrect the brand itself.

The Maritimes: Where every set of directions comes with a history lesson.

(I know it applies to most places, but we seem to have a knack for giving directions via things that used to be there)
