Well said. I would also say that it's difficult to judge a skyscraper before it's finished, or if you haven't seen it in person in various lighting conditions.

Actually the flat top design adds a unique dimension to the Philly skyline bc the 3 other tallest skyscrapers in the city all terminate to a point at the apex. (However, CC won't be competely flat with all the corners & angles at the crown).

And look at the former WTC's - tall & boxy in design yet had a dominant & elegant effect on NYC's skyline.

I'm not going to disagree with you on that, but they were an icon, something extremely recognizable not only for NYC, but for the US. I think CC while it won't quite have that same effect for the whole US, will def at least for Philly and maybe the east coast as well.

I really like the transparent boxes at the foot of the tower. I guess they contain a huge atrium at the entrance.
Dramatic effects to be expected.

Why are the glass panes see-through for the atrium? but non see-through for the rest of the building? You can still see all the steel behind the see-through glass. Will that be covered up?

I hope not !
The columns behind the transparent glass are nice. Only, they do not seem structural but decorative.

Normal glass is better for public spaces, since it lets people see into the building and see what's going on. Mirror glass would be inappropriate for the public atrium. This is good urban design.

The thing with architecture is that the only propery way to appreciate it is to inhabit it. Walk through it, sit down and be in it for a while, or get something to eat and drink in it. To just look at photos of it and judge it as if it were a sculpture or a painting is to misunderstand architecture.

Certainly one of the reasons for the projecting 110' high entrance being see through glass is that it serves as an entrence to the train station below, as a public entrence it needs to be flooded with light. 30th st station does the same thing although it was not then possible to create a glass box since low E glass did not exist. But if know waht the station looks like you will see that there is an attempt to open up the walls as much as was feasible in 1930.

I saw this photo on Gio's website. What is happening on the west side of the building here? According to the renderings, the east and west sides of the building do not go as high as the north and south (with reference to the outside sections, not the inner polygon). But in this photo, it looks like they are building up the west side so it is of equal height. Interesting...

EDIT: Oh, maybe it is just a temporary structure so that the elevators can bring supplies to the top.

I think you are right - I am pretty sure it is just a temporary scaffold to provide access from the elvators to the set-back floors.

There are just way too many pages for me to try and find this here: does anyone have the info(or can direct me to a website that would have it) regarding how the parking(if any is included onsite) is handled, and a plan of what the atrium looks like? thanks. Such a beautiful building with an incredible glass facade. I wonder how the are going to decorate that atrium? Is it going to be something akin to the Winter Garden in NYC/WFC?
