There are bunch of 'rooms', some previously staffed, some for equipment that are no longer needed due to improvements in technology and have become superfluous.

Updates from Ottawa Stage 2.

Some late June Snapshot updates from O-Train Fan contributors:

South

Bayview, quite an impressive expansion that includes two new entry points (one to a building not yet u/c) and a second Trillium platfrom.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...n-june-28-2022

Corso Italia, an infill station in the urban core with significant TOD planned and approved.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...n-june-28-2022

Dow's Lake and future Civic site. Really worried the City's slow process and incapacity to plan for the future will either delay the Civic or force the Ottawa Hospital to start construction without widening the trench. Worried Dow's lake station won't be expanded in time for the hospital's opening as well.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...n-june-12-2022

South Keys, the transfer between the airport line and Line 2.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...n-june-14-2022

Jeanne d'Arc, a local suburban station, which will have an entrance on each side of the overpass.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...n-june-18-2022

Guideway

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...y-june-18-2022

East

West

SJAM tunnel, the stretch between the Scott Street transit trench and Byron tunnel.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...l-june-24-2022

Sherbourne and Byron tunnel. The Byron tunnel bridges a long standing service gap of the Transitway and will feature two open air stations.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...n-june-24-2022

New Orchard and Byron tunnel.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...n-june-24-2022

Lincoln Fields, a massive structure that will include three tracks, three platforms (one centre (considered two) and one side) along with washrooms and a retail space. Will accommodate ross-platform transfer between Lines 1 and 3 outbound most hours of the day.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...n-june-23-2022

Algonquin, the last underground station in the foreseeable future (for a total of 5). It will act as the terminus for Line 1 until the extension to Barrhaven.

Super impressed with the Ottawa LRT being built -- I can only dream of getting something that good in Hamilton (I have a feeling our LRT will be a disaster)

Hamilton suburban Councilors: But could it be single-tracked?

Also jealous here in Edmonton.

Edmonton Councilors: How can we slow the train down and remove those pesky grade separations?

The scale and depth of these new LRT projects in Ottawa are remarkable, I'm glad to see how far along this system has come.

Those of you impressed with the Ottawa stations should go on the Ottawa forum and look at the Confederation Line thread. They've prioritized aesthetics over reliability and maintainability. And that will have substantial impacts going forward. It's important to learn from Ottawa. Not just from the positives, like investing in rapid transit. But also from the mistakes made.

Really hoping that lessons have been learned and will be applied in Stage 2. I have confidence that the new trains will work well however, not sure the station designs will have been updated to make them easier to maintain and resist better to our harsh weather (not necessarily from a passenger comfort level, but from a durability perspective).

My response to the previous post was going to be: yes, but does the LRT run?

It runs, and it runs well. Took a while, but we're in a good place from a service and reliability perspective, but not quite there form a station maintenance lens.

Canada Day was a huge test, and things ran quite well. No major issues.

I'm aware of the troubles of the system, but it looks like Ottawas transit commission has a better hold of running an LRT system now than a year ago at the very least, and is generally more reliable.

It's very nice inside, but the outside leaves a lot to be desired. Both Calgary and Saskatoon have the luxury of building from scratch, whereas the Milner library retained it's original 1967 frame.
