What you talkin' 'bout Willis? You could easily have 12 people play a ball hockey game in that courtyard. And 30 spectators.

And fireworks. Don't forget the promotional images showing fireworks in there.

They've been doing a lot to tidy up the site. There's a lot less "stuff" in the plaza and a lot of the extra scaffolding has been removed from between floors.

Probably getting some of that kind of thing done while they wait for the cranes to get jacked up higher.

Is it possible that the scaffolding is left in place for a couple weeks while the cement continues to dry and solidify?

My 1950s-era apartment block has poured cement floors - that slope noticeably away from the outside walls. Though judging from fresh cracks in the walls, this might be an ongoing process.

^ Maybe time to start looking for a new apartment? Or maybe at least start wearing a hardhat to bed?

The scaffold can be removed once the concrete reaches it design strength. So all the floors still with scaffold supporting have not reached that strength yet. 28 days is the timeframe. You can see this on the first tower, not so much on the rest of it.

True North is the best thing that has happened to Downtown Winnipeg ever. I wish they could just build everything. We are truly blessed to have them investing in Winnipeg.

This is at least the fourth project to "save" downtown.

1. The Centennial Centre - aka Concert Hall + Manitoba Museum.
2. WCC + Carlton Square, Holiday Towers, etc (a live, work, play development)
3. North Portage - aka Portage Place, Place Prominade, etc. (a live, work play development)
4. True North/Longboat developments.

Considering we are still trying to "save" downtown I will hold out judgement until 10 years after TNS is completed.

at least True North didn't tear down a bunch of buildings to build TNS. Centrepoint had to get rid of the old MTS exhibition hall but that's a negligible loss. The Portage Place development took out a substantial amount of good buildings if I'm not mistaken. Pretty sure they all had at least some level of govt funding but it's nearly impossible these days to build something without that help, especially large projects. The important thing about TNS is that they are trying to tap into a new market of people with a more upscale residential component. Same with 300 Main. At some point the new influx of people should help downtown reach critical mass but far be it from me to say when.

The only one of those downtown projects listed that was totally needless was Portage Place... there was no need for government to spearhead the construction of a shopping mall and apartment complex.

The concert hall and convention centre are civic amenities that the private sector wasn't going to develop, and TNS is a market-driven project. I really don't think anyone is expecting a single project that is really not that big in the context of the entire downtown to "save" anything.

"Saving downtown" cannot be achieved by one project. The goal is to continually attract more residents, workers and tourists, and that will not end.

The Concert Hall complex was just the start of what was suppose to be govt funded projects in the area.

Full design plans were drawn up and stopped just as they were going out for tender for a joint MPI/DVL head office complex to go up just north of the Concert Hall complex spanning Pacific Ave.

TrueVike shared a photo or some plans of what the civic complex ultimate build out entailed. Basically demolishing everything from the river to Main St.

It would've been something, that's for sure. Can't say I'm disappointed though, as we have a nice little residential neighbourhood on the rise.

That's unconscionable. They really should have built that on the sea of parking lots to the south of portage. And all the ground floor units should have had outwards facing entrances.

The view late yesterday afternoon from the 7th floor at City Place

gone are the days of looking west and seeing the rest of downtown towards the Legislative Building.

Lol I guess you'll have to settle with a shiny glass curtain wall instead.

In the late morning they were building a brick and mortar wall along the side of the entrance to the parkade, facing the church property
