No its a natural barrier island, part of the same long chain as Miami Beach & Key Biscayne though I'm sure its borders have been straightened and extended a little over the years. It actually used to be connected to the Miami Beach land mass but in the 1940's The Army Corps of Engineers blasted out Haulover Cut making the Sunny Isles Beach/Hallandale Beach landmass separate from the Miami Beach/Bal Harbour landmass.
