Central Pennsylvania

Had to go up to State College. Took advantage of the opportunity to take some pics. I hadn't been to State College since I was a teenager. It's not really a photogenic place.

Osceola Mills.

Philipsburg

Boalsburg

State College.

Bellefonte! (Oh Yeah!)

Clearfield

Yeah, Penn State sucks.

But Bellefonte is a stunner.

wow... you hit up my old stompin' grounds

Despite living within an hour of Osceola Mills all my life... I never bothered to stop... I had no idea it had such beautiful homes... much more impressive than nearby Philipsburg.

My brother lives in Boalsburg... the historic 1970s section. I can't believe you captured my ex-gf's house lol

State College may be a tough town to photograph... but I think it's beautiful nonetheless. Sure... there isn't much in the way of historic Victorians or whatever... but the core residential area is the textbook tree canopy, narrow street type of area... small blocks... pleasant houses... lush vegetation... the downtown's vibrant and bustling... interfacing with Penn State's campus for a mile or so along College Ave.... and the location in Happy Valley surrounded by green ridges is stunning

Yes... Bellefonte is amazing... hopefully it doesn't suffer any more devastating fires.

Clearfield is about 40 minutes south of my hometown... my uncle owns Denny's Beer Barrel Pub there (not related to the chain)... home of the biggest burger in the world... over 100 pounds... Front St. is gorgeous but man... do they have a BLAND courthouse... props for capturing some ATA buses... the mass transit system for about 6 counties in north-central PA.

Nice. The hills and mountains are always a nice surprise.

I like this building:

Central PA does receive below average sunshine... especially in the winter months.. it's due to atmospheric and topographic factors.

State College doesn't have much history at all... there was nothing there before Penn State University was founded in 1855... originally as an agricultural college. State College existed as little more than a few boarding houses and businesses serving the college and was only incorporated as a borough in 1896. Almost all of its growth has been post-WW2... coinciding with the growth of the university... which is reflected in its uninteresting architecture and sprawling environs. State College is a beautiful town.. but it's not really "photogenic" for someone interested in capturing historic vernacular housing and urban streetscapes.

However, the region surrounding State College is quite historic. There's still log cabins existing from the 1700s in Penns Valley east of State College... and Bellefonte is the textbook 1800s Victorian treasure. Scattered throughout the forests are remnants of early 1800s iron furnaces.

This is quintessential American architecture. God bless the Industrial Revolution and God bless Pennsylvania. I gotta get out that way again before too long.

not blair though. tyrone hasn't had a transit system since the trolleys to altoona ended in the 1930s. unless you count amtrak, i guess. not to be confused with amtran, altoona's bus system.

i do think state college is a beautiful town, regardless of how sprawled out it's become. the borough itself is still a fantastic place to be. even if they keep closing my childhood memories.

ATA stands for "Area Transportation Authority"... the most generic name ever... they serve Clearfield, Jefferson, Elk, Cameron, McKean and Potter Counties...

their website is terrible
