A stroll through Downtown Minneapolis

stop over in Minneapolis for day and a bit thought i would go kill some time by going to downtown Minneapolis. by taking the bus..... never did i think taking the bus would be so hard... anyhow besides that its was an interesting adventure.

so shall we start then

the bus i had just gotten off of

looking behind me we see the HHH Metrodome and metro station

looking up towards the core down 5th st

slightly to the left

looking down Portland at 5th st

across from city hall looking down 5th st at 4th Ave s with the public safeties building behind me

looking down 4th Ave south

hmm so tempting but naa already been there

sweet

looking down 6th st from 3rd ave s

looking up

ally on 7th st between 3rd and 2nd ave s

2nd ave s between 7th and 8th st loving the vines

construction at 11th st and 2nd Ave s

looking down Marquette from 11th st

from Nicollet between 11th and 10th st

downtown school on 10th and Hennepin

aww theres the camera store... damnation no one caries reversal rings for the PENTAX (anyone know any shops along i35 to threw Texas that might have one?)

from Hennepin between 10th and 9th st

inside lasalle plaza has a nice spot to sit and relax inside by a unique fountan but none of the shots of it turned out

looking down 6th at Lasalle from the bus stop

looking back on I-94 towards downtown Minneapolis on this 5 above day (F)

I was tempted once to go to the Mall of America. Sad.

Looks like everyone was in the skywalks today. Very nice pics!

yes, on days like today pretty much everywhere in the city looks deserted. I really don't like when it gets this cold. Luckily its only this cold a couple weeks out of the year yuck.

My Dad lives in Edina, and I must say that "The Twins" are the cleanest cities EVER!

Nice photography but these two pics show a fact about Minneapolis that I think is a mistake:

These skybridges and the system of indoor life that they connect tend to create the lifeless streetscape also evident in the photos.

Obviously Minneapolis has a harsh winter climate that does make sidewalk strolling unattractive in the dead of winter, but here I think we see that street life can exist there:

My own San Francisco actually has a planning policy against skybridges in order to force pedestrian traffic onto the sidewalks which, in turn, stimulates streetlevel retail that makes the city street full of life and interesting.

^I can also imagine it must not be that pleasant with all those cold office towers funneling the wind down in there. I'm sure there would be a lot more people walking even in cold weather if they planned in a more pedestrian friendly way
