Jeckyll Island Club, founded by the old money millionaires such as Morgan, Rockefeller, Goodyear, Vanderbilt was purchased in 1886 or thereabouts, previously owned by the French family du Bignon of Brittany who purchased it in 1791 from the government seeing as it had been the previous plantation home of Colonel Horton, who had a plantation there that supplied Beef, Corn and Ale to near by Fort Federica. Horton was appointed by General Ogelthorpe who's name is plastered around Savannah to the North by about 120 miles and the surrounding area. Anyways... thats the long and short of it.
This is where all of those powerful men got together in a secret meeting to make sure American had a Central Bank once again. They conspired together to get Woodrow Wilson elected because he was their shill to back the Federal Reserve. Thank you Banksters, rich old white men.... Gotta love em.
Water looks kind of brownish red, not too appealing.

My great great grandparents had a house next to Andrew Carnegie's on Cumberland Island south of there. My childhood home had a few articles from the Carnegie house as a result, as my family members became friends. That whole stretch from Sea Island down into parts of Jacksonville were what Palm Beach is today. Sea Island is of course still one of the wealthiest locales in the world (wealthier than Palm Beach perhaps).
I hope you got some fresh white shrimp while you were there - they are very sweet!
Did you photograph any of the old, brick swimming pools at those homes? I was on Jekyll last year and was amazed they had pools. They are opening the new convention center on the island tomorrow. Hopefully the relaxed feel of the island isn't lost to massive tourism.
