When all the currently under-construction Midtown supertalls have topped out, how many will there be? I believe there will be 14:

Central Park Tower
111 West 57th Street
One Vanderbilt
432 Park Avenue
30 Hudson Yards
Empire State Building
Bank of America Tower
53W53
Chrysler Building
New York Times Tower
35 Hudson Yards
One57
One Manhattan West
50 Hudson Yards

Midtown Manhattan has an area of 2.254 square miles. 14 supertalls in such a small area is an impressive density! Of course this number will keep rising in the next few years.

That's the cool part too, only in Midtown. Not even counting the other nodes.

Don't forget The Spiral and 270 Park which is starting demo and 1000% happening.

Lots planned, and will rise. With land prices the way they are, and space being tight, up is the only way.

They keep up with the exact numbers over in the supertall thread...

I couldn't tell you off the top of my head exactly how many, because at some point the exact number becomes somewhat irrelevant.

I am curious. I other cities and other discussions the terms of "Point Tower," "Blade Tower" etc. have been used to describe very tall and very narrow towers. Has any term been used in New York for your new crop of these Midtown lofty Giants?

16, adding The Spiral and 270 Park.

For an idea of the u/c projects, check this post out. As stated above, in super tall thread.

For u/c:

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...postcount=1994

For proposals, this one:

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...postcount=1995

Typically every 1 or 2 months, I'll post updated list for u/c and proposals for NYC in both supertall/highrise compilation.

I prefer CTBUH data over Emporis, although Emporis is a little better IMO for Asian Cities, but for North America, CTBUH is the way to go.

The lesson to be learned folks is that there is a lot rising!!!

Lots more in the pipeline and new projects everyday added to pipeline or in some form of permit proccess which will eventually lead to ground breaking if it be 4 floors all the way up to 50+ floors.

Do note the lists are not everything. A lot is still missing, and depends on how you change the search parameters. For updated list of things, check the mid rise and high rise thread. Almost every post... like 90% of them, are projects in some way or some form.

Actually, besides skyscrapers, if your asking for another term used to describe the new crop of towers, they have been called "monstrosities" by some of the locals afraid of shadows and blocking sun light.

So "monstrosities" can be a valid plural noun when you ask certain folks.

And some of those editorials written usually by anti-development folks have used "monstrosities" many times. With the 57th Street towers, with the LES towers, pretty much anything over 200 ft in DoBro.

Its their favorite noun to indicate anything taller than a tree.

Also ... they love to say "out of character".

Example: A 600 ft tower is "out of character" in an area that sports numerous 700-800+ foot towers.

"Out of character"

This is close to approaching 1500'. We could be looking at about 100 ft more to go, approximately for full top out.
