The design changes this thing has been through is just crazy.

What changes? AFAIK, they went with the first idea that met the pro forma.

In hindsight, the original (which I loved) had a pretty incongruous and boring base. At least the base here has something interesting going on.

This doesn't feel like a Chicago Tower to me. More of a Toronto vibe.

Are you saying you'd rather it not be built then?

I don't think I said that. Just reminds me of a Toronto design. That's not a bad thing either.

this new design is still pretty nice though, at least the top 80% of it, like you said.

it'll be fine in the skyline; 100% of my concerns involve the base and how it fits into michigan ave.
interesting.

What was it about the original design that you thought was so impressive?

What isn't?....sleek, sharp, sexy cantilevered look with eye pleasing base that IMO more appropriately fits Mich Ave. Don't hate the redo but every time I see it, it just reminds me of a giant Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image.

I don't see the problem people have with this. It's much better than Legacy. I like the curves, we need more of that.

The one thing I like about the Legacy over this is that it's pushed back from Michigan instead of fronting it. I prefer a little more layered look to skylines. Even if it's only half a block back.

Disagree. The massing of the Legacy is much more appropriate and compliments buildings around it, while this building is smashed up against Michigan in a non-graceful manner. I still think the design is okay, but it is far from elegant.

I really don't like Legacy, it's looks so clunky. it's like 800 feet tall but looks squat.

Sorry, I disagree. I like the boxier style.

Seriously… Legacy is lean and elegant. This looks like a thumb on a pedestal.

I just wish that the tower started out matching the same rectangle as the shape and gradually transitioned into the curves. If it did that, then I may even prefer it to the original design. As currently designed, the transition seems too clunky... even though I get that they purposefully want to make it seem like a tower on top of a building that matches the existing Michigan Ave streetscape.
