Also, Wanda said they weren't going to sell this building I believe (or they said they wouldn't until it was completed).
They'll sell on completion to maximize value.

There is a difference between strategic selling and liquidating assets due to financial distress (like Teng or Anglo-Irish).

The Chinese government may be able to nationalize assets in China, but they have zero sovereignty in the US. That's not how things work here and that's exactly why the communist party is so worried about money going overseas, it dilutes their power. As Wang himself said, cooperating with the party is a "live by the party, die by the party" proposition.

That said, I think this is still news because it will be interesting to see if this is one of the assets they make him sell or if he gets to hold onto it because it increases Chinese prestige or something like that. Surely a more Marquee asset like this has some value to the party, not to mention the statement of it facing a similarly grand tower across the river.

Isn't it like a $700 million loan that Wanda was approved of. No chance this baby's not being completed. Wouldn't be completely shocked if the hotel chain switched at some point.

Looking up at this from the base is going to make Chase Tower seem tame.

Chase Tower will never seem tame. That thing is the most imposing 850 foot tall building in the world.

I'm already amazed by this building. This could the best looking building in the city. It looks so cool now. At full height and with glass - it's going to be mind blowing.

Yeah, come mid-summer, when the rising sun starts hitting the north face of this building, it's going to shine like crazy with glass partially up the concrete structure. Can't wait to get some shots of it from the air + Michigan Avenue bridge

Still would rather see the Chicago Spire from that angle but this is a close second for sensualness.
