Taken during my trip across Indonesia last year. People usually don't linger here for too long, but I found the city interesting, as any other big city. I especially liked wandering in the inner city neighbourhoods far from the tourist spots.
Really great pics and you captured the feeling and atmosphere of urban Indonesia perfectly! Like you mentioned, I usually just pass through JK and have never explored the side streets.
That's incredible.
So is this . . . I was in Bali for a conference last month and drove through Denpasar for the first time. Looked pretty much like this. It's shocking to go from pristine Nusa Dua to this.
I've always gotten the impression that Jakarta had a sort of "Tropical Los Angeles on steroids" vibe. I was wondering if you agreed with that after visiting, or if I completely just made that up. Someday I'd like to check it out... (maybe on the way to Bali or something).

I've never been to LA but maybe that description would better fit Bangkok, which is far more developped and cosmopolitan, with all the artificiality one would associate with LA.
^ I'm disgusted at such a thread. The guy is aware of textures, people, soul and everything. On top of that, he can both own and use a cool camera. C'mon, that's just disgusting.
Thx for his pics on here anyway.

Personally I thought it fit Singapore. Try walking along Orchard Rd and not feeling like you could be on Wilshire (only much cleaner with 99% humidity).
Jakarta is much more developing and manic. Western businessmen there still need to have drivers.
But did I feel confortable? that's a different question!! While walking through those neighbourhoods the hassle is mostly the high level of attention. Nearly everyone you pass will stop doing what they are doing to stare at you and wonder what the heck is happening! Most of them though are super friendly and always greet you with a "Hello Mister"! Anyone who wants to experience what's it must be like to be famous should go there!
