The Brick

Driving along Kenmount Rd. today I saw a Grand Opening sign hung outside the new Brick store, but there's no actual store signage yet.

Seems a little cart before the horse but OK

Pipers is returning to Mount Pearl. It's only been a year since they left their location on Commonwealth Avenue, but they are coming back in the old Max Athletic building near the entrance to Galway.

Guess they are moving in now that GNC is gone. Always wondered how well these supplement stores do. I use to buy that stuff but not anymore.

Think it would be more lucrative it were directly in the same building as a gym.

Wasnt sure where this would fit. Axtion announced they were closing last night. They are closing their doors this weekend due to low numbers of customers because of fear of covid. Rocket moved their downtown location to keep their business open. If things don't improve soon we could see more closures which is sad to see.

Very sad indeed, all the local businesses are being wiped out. The only thing left standing will be the multi-national corporations, a bitter pill to swallow

Yes, a bitter pill indeed. It's very saddening to see local businesses hemorrhage and not be able to do anything about it. Once we go back to "normal", I wonder how many locally owned businesses will be able to get back on their feet vs national chains establishing those businesses here? I sure hope local businesses can do it, they're the engines of our local economy.... the money will stay here... we need that!

RBC is closing their 664 Topsail Road location. They've been their since the late 60's/early 70's. Staff and services will be consolidated with their Kelsey Drive branch. I'm not sure when the actual closing date is.

Anybody know what happened to EBGames on Kelsey Drive? Drove by today and noticed the sign is gone and the inside is packed up. Google says its temporarily closed but it looks pretty permanent from the outside.

Another victim of booming online retail coupled with COVID-19 slowdowns. I believe the location at the Village is closed too. I went to the Kelsey location just before Christmas to pick up a game for my son. I purposely wanted to buy from a local spot. Tried Toy R Us first but no luck. I waited outside at EBgames for 20 mins (Max limit of 5 iirc). Finally got inside and they didn't have the game either. Went out to my car and three taps on the screen had it ordered - delivered to my doorstep in 2-3 weeks. I could have tried at another location but couldn't risk the potential wait time with no reward. It's just a really tough environment for brick and mortar stores right now.

There is an EBgames in Avalon Mall too isn't there? I can understand how two locations so close to one another wouldn't be sustainable.

If you want to try local for video games, have you been to Games exchange on Freshwater Road? Not sure if they sell new but they have a massive collection of used games. Prices are better than new and I've found the quality good. Staff are great there too.

Thanks for the recommendation! I've been there before (many years ago) but I think it was called something else. To be completely honest, I forgot this place existed.

New restaurant opening at the shopping centre in Paradise, Pur & Simple, looks to be a mix of Freshii and Cora.

Assuming you mean Paradise Plaza (next to Octagon pond) for the "shopping centre"?...

Giant Tiger has been working on a new concept for its stores in its head office Ottawa location. It’s also still in expansion mode to add to its already 258 locations, noting that its not in BC or Newfoundland...Yet.

Question. Where would you like to see a Giant Tiger locate in metro?

Saw Giant Tiger transport truck at Costco last week...have seen a few of them around in the past year.

Plaza Retail website shows lease pending for large space to be built next to Dollarama in Galway. Thinking that would be a good location.
