Isn't that the same method used for McDonalds HQ? That one flew up, even with huge floor plates.

It is a complicated logistical sequence that allows the construction schedule to be significantly compressed. Basically, the vertical construction occurs simultaneous to the excavation of the basement as opposed to the traditional approach of excavating all the way to the lowest basement and placing the slabs sequentially from lowest to highest. This method has been used on a few projects in Chicago. McDonald's headquarters was the most recent. OMP East was also built using this method.

I worked for whole foods before I moved to SV and today I dropped in by the whole foods on Huron and talked to a couple buds who are now managers. Obviously I asked them about the whole foods moving to one Chicago Square and they both told me they were told the move would be finalized in 3 years. Obviously this has all been reported but I thought I would add some corroborating tidbits.

Finalized as in they'll be moved into the building in 3 years, or finalized as ..in 3 years they will sign the papers to move in later?

Sure does.

I feel like an old timer (which I'm not even close to being), but do many of you remember that it wasn't long ago that River North was mostly low slung buildings and otherwise a sea of parking lots?

I mean, that has transformed within 2 decades, and this particular project will be a major exclamation point of that process. The Holy Name lot is a hole in what is otherwise becoming a cohesive urban fabric north of the river. Who cares if it's 25 feet too short of some arbitrary measure? But whatever, I know that there are some OCD types out there who just won't bother to change their minds...

^ Mustn't forget it's TWO substantial towers. We'd be happy with the office tower alone, if it were located here or just about anywhere else.
