Those are even worser than Calgary prices... and the new ones out here are expensive as all hell, especially considering the economic gangbang...

My god, $2000/rent in Winnipeg - what are these people thinking?!?!?!?!

Agreed, seems normal for this market. If you want something nice and new in Winnipeg, it will cost you. The website for 300 Assiniboine says 2 bedrooms starting at $1700.

The rental market in Winnipeg is quite depressing actually. For a city with such a reputation for affordable living, this may be in large part due to how shit most of our rental stock is.

Calgary is horrible comparison as it's drastically overbuilt with a ton of empty units.

This is the result of the condo boom that we are just beginning to catch up from.

The parkade looks so bad from Donald, I hope someone buys the small law building and builds something bigger to hide it one day.

Also interesting, and maybe Viking can comment - I have noticed that every new tall building built in say the last 5-10 years has red aircraft warning lights on every corner. I noticed them on this building when coming down Goulet the other night.....looking around they are on 300 Assiniboine, D-Condo, Hydro, True North Square, Glass House but not on very many older towers.

^ They are definitely much more prominent on newer buildings. Funny, if it's that important why do they let older buildings get away with being grandfathered?

design concept: a nicely designed tower to raise your hopes but a giant fucking blight of a parkade to remind you that it is still winnipeg

They must be planning to rent out spots in that parkade to the public, right? It seems way too big for the tower it's attached to.

Yup. It wasn't CRU's along the front blocking the parkade. Maybe could've been townhouses like 300 Assinniboine.

I wonder if any of these 3 rules (Canadian Aviation Regulations (601.23) from Transport Canada to come into play:

higher than 90 meters above ground level (AGL) and located within 6 kilometers of the geographical centre of an aerodrome

higher than 90 meters AGL and is located within 3.7 kilometers of the centreline of a recognized VFR route

higher than 150 meters AGL

Well no since none of the buildings are over 90 meters. The other categories are met though.

I passed through Harkness station on my way home from work and it looks like they've washed or treated the concrete panels on the building. It's looking real nice

However, it's too bad that they weren't allowed to put those townhouses in on the front of the parkade, having a street front on Stradbrook from Donald to Harkness would really add to the feel of the station. Are they putting panels or sort on the sides of the parkade? It looked like they were doing something to it.

So the blue light up the tower actually made it to final design, was on the other day and looks good. It's funny when they removed the townhouses they also made the red accents blue. Also, to no surprise, the "decorative screens" on the parkade are just steel mesh. City messed up big allowing them to remove the townhouses here.

Any sign of the dog run and other "grade level exterior active uses" they promised would take up 75% of the parkade frontage?

Yeah that's a loss to be sure, but townhouses feel somewhat off on that street. I'd have gladly settled for more commercial street front units to hide the parkade in behind.
